Hi, I currently live in Chicago and so frustrated and sad that I cannot wake up everyday and see trees and green! I have always wanted to be a country girl and am unsure given finances and the economy that it will be in my future. does anyone else share in this frustration? We camp and hike a lot, but bottom line is that everyday I come home to my little city lot. I love my home and family, but I feel like this dream may never come true.I am feeling trapped. Has anyone ever heard of leasing a little farm house or somethihng like that? |

Lifes not about the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.
Just a small town country girl, farmgirl, loggergirl, trying to live her dreams. :)
P.s. I've been playing around with the spelling of my name ( weird I know) and I've decided that I will stick with Hannah for good. Sorry I got you all confused. Hugs!! |

I'm not sure of any farm leasing, but you and your family can go on a vacation on a real FARM. They have them all over the U.S. I live out in Washington and have heard of a few farms out here and in Oregon...I think there are some in Pennsylvania...you can google working farm vacations and something should come up, if not, I could try to find you some links
<hugs> :)

Sometimes folks need "farmer's helpers" that come and stay on the farm and live and work the farm alongside or in lieu of the farmer. I would recommend looking for Sustainable Agriculture organizations or farm organizations in your state if that is where you want to stay. I KNOW PASA (Pa Sustainable Agriculture) has had want ad's like this in the past.....pasa.org
You might want to look into Buy Local organizations as well. This will get you in touch with real farmers in your neck of the woods, even if your woods are the park down the street. :O)
Keep your eyes and ears open. Get online and seek what you so desire. I am sure it is out there if you really want it, it will come true. Making dreams into thoughts, making thoughts into actions, making actions into dreams....it will happen for you! Here is our little dream boy, Boxer. He was a miracle in the making....didn't think he'd survive his first 24 hours, but with much positive talk, prayers, holding him in the Light non-stop he is our little barn mascot. He's great fun and cute, and always happy to see us at feeding time.
Hugs farmgirl in the making! Rejena Farmgirl 2059

Peggy, I SO feel the same way!! I grew up in Chicago and now live nw in Niles. Today I was with family in the city, we took the bus across town and saw Potter at Navy Pier. My family lives near the Brickyard and on the walk to the bus stop we passed a house that had six chickens in the yard. The kids were intrigued but I was in love LOL!! I wish I was in the city so I could have chickens, just a few laying hens would fill me with great joy. It's legal but you need the space and I am financially in a small apt renter space so that's not happening anytime soon. But I keep hoping!
Rejena, I love your ideas. When I was younger I would have jumped at such a chance...not sure if it is feasible now but I have to look into it.

Can relate to your frustration. We too live in the suburbs, with neighbors everywhere and only a little plot to plant our garden every year. I want to live in the country I grew up in, where there is a creek for fishing in less than a mile, more that enough land to have a big a garden as I want. I could have chickens and a cow or goat and would be in hog heaven. We will be moving this spring and I am hoping the move it to the country. I hope you can find your piece of country soon.
