Hi ladies! Has anyone ever tried Cranberry pie? I found a recipe by chance while looking for something different for Thanksgiving dinner. I'd like to try it, seems simple enough. Thanks in advance for your input. Angie |

Sounds good. Personally I like cranberry and apple mixed. You might want to make a pie ahead of time to see how it tastes to be sure you like it. I've done the whole found a new recipe and then discovered it wasn't to my taste debaucle.
Let us know how it turns out.

Angela, It sounds good to me too, but I'm with Laurie on the "try it first" method. I'll bet it would be beautiful.

I love cranberries, too. Was wondering if this may be too tart for others, though. I will definitely try this first. I found the recipe in a book called " I Remember Laura", about Laura Ingalls Wilder. There's a whole section of pioneer recipes in there, including this one. Cranberry Pie 1 1/4 cups split cranberries 1 1/4 cups sugar 2 tablespoons flour water 2 crust 9 inch pie shell Measure cranberries and add water to measuring cup to cover cranberries. Combine sugar and flour in a mixing bowl and add cranberries. Pour into pie shell. Cover with top crust, and cut steam vents. Bake at 425 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until juice bubbles and crust is browned. Please let me know if you try this. I won't get to make one until tomorrow or Thursday. Angie |

While we're talking pies- has anyone tried an eggwash as a browning agent on your pies? How about a glaze after? I would like to make a glaze but don't know how. I use an apricot glaze when I bake pies at work, and it makes them lovely. |

Thank you for the recipe, Angela! Can't wait to try it! My grandmother used to use a little bit of milk or cream to help the pies brown, so that is what I use as well. I just lightly brush it on before baking - works like a charm! I've never used glaze, but apricot sounds divine! :) - Nini

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to try when I bake my pie. It would work out great for just one pie. An egg is too much for just one. I'd love to glaze it. Maybe I can scrounge a recipe for that somewhere. Thanks again! I'll post after I bake my pie and let everyone know how it goes.:D |

Here's another recipe for Cranberry Pie but this one has apples, raisins and walnuts :) Debbie, the Maple Syrup in the crisp sounds great!
Cape Cod October Pie
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped cranberries 1 cup peeled, cored, diced Granny Smith Apples 1/2-cup raisins 1/2-cup walnuts 1/4 cup cranberry (or cranberry/apple) juice 1-teaspoon cinnamon 1 1/2 cups sugar 1-teaspoon vanilla extract 2 teaspoons flour 4 Tablespoons butter
Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry rolled to 1/3-inch thickness. Toss together: cranberries, apples, raisins, walnuts and juice with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla. Spoon lightly into unbaked pie shell and dot with butter. Cut strips from remaining piecrust and make a lattice over top of pie. Bake in a preheated 425-degree oven for about 40 minutes, until fruits are tender and pastry is brown.
