Oh my stars - I don't even want to say how long it has been since I last posted but I had something I wanted to share with my farmgirl sisters. I'm always inspired by others, I love to learn from others and come up with my own "twist" on things. Well I was asked a few months ago to decorate a barn for a wedding reception - the bride wanted it to be "fallish" but no orange pumpkins or mums inside - no fresh flowers on the tables (she thought that expense was unnecessary and I agreed). She said I just want it to be "different". Now she did invest/rent some nice linens, tables and chairs but I wanted to share with you all the things we used that were free or cheap. Like hedgeapples, and peacock feathers and split peas and white beans, borrowed glassware and lots and lots of burlap, plant bed canvas and tissue paper flowers.

In keeping up with Caty's wedding journey in MJF magazine - I jus' thought you all might like to see. I've been posting pics and ideas for about the past week over at my blog. Hope you enjoy the journey.

Happy weekend,
Cathy "Cobblestone"

Cathy...Awesome. The most beautiful wedding I have seen. It beats all those fancy weddings I've been to and then some. You need to get those pictures posted in Country Woman magazine and a few others. Great job Sister. You Rock. Who was singing on your blog? Loved it.

Thanks Darlene - you all are too kind. I had a great time working on this wedding - I had two weeks to do it so I wasn't stressed (not real bad anyway - hehe). The first song playing you asked about is "Everything" by Michael Buble. Thanks again!

Loved your barn transformation! Simply stunning! How many yards of burlap did you end up using? Where did you get it all? Beautiful!

Oh my - I'd be afraid to say how many yards of burlap we used - I'm really not sure. Thankfully I get it on a huge roll at our local feed store - So it is a lot more cost effective to purchase it that way. The plant bed canvas came in 300 foot rolls at 15 feet wide. We split it in the middle and stretched it to 600 feet - I know we used 1200 feet of canvas - believe me - I was hanging canvas in my sleep - And even though it (the canvas) was an investment - I don't know of any other product that would make that much of an impact - in that big of a space - at such a reasonable price. So I was happy with it.

So glad you liked it!

Funny you should ask. Yes, we did keep those beans for soup - well washed and soaked of course and the split peas went for split pea soup also. We jus' couldn't bear to throw them away. Personally though - I've seen so many beans from that reception - I have no desire to eat beans for a lOOOOOOOng time - hehe

So glad you all are enjoying the pictures.

Absolutely beautiful! Magical. You turned that barn into magazine cover beautiful! Someone should seriously submit what you did to a magazine for publishing. Our oldest daughter, Meredith, will be getting married in late Spring. I wish you could come here and wave your magic wand for her reception!
