Here's a picture of one of my latest dollies - his name is Thad Overheels (a worker at the Lighthouse Brokenreed Respitorium) He does look a little different than this - he wears
a straw hat and chews on a wheat stalk. Hope you like him. I will post some pics of
Miss Neetantidie SoClean, and the Rev.'s sister Shurly Oz Blest the sunday school teacher,
and just finished Hope Glimmer....oh dear, and I finished the Rev. Blest, also.
hope this works

Thank you, all so much for your comments. I'm trying to show you Miss Neetentidie SoCleen, here. Hope you enjoy these - they have been alot of fun to do. I found some
material at a 2nd hand shop - couldn't tell if its old or not and her apron was made
from a pillowcase I found with a pansy embroidered on it....sweet. My friend, the
soap lady, is opening a new shop and wants to show/display/sell my dolls there. She
wants more things there than just her soap. I haven't a clue what I'd sell them for, I've never done this before...I only sell eggs and chickens and sometimes beeswax dipped
candles - any ideas?

a closeup

Her hair is sheeps wool and she's doing needlework

oh chris .. you are a scream .. love your chilluns!

as far as what to ask for your dollies ... remember a coupla' things ... WHAT WILL THE TRAFFIC BEAR in your area? some places people will pay much higher than others. i find that kentucky mamas won't pay what 'nawtherners and easterners' will. but that is o.k. cuz' i really don't make them to make money .. but to get them into homes of lovin' mommas all over the u.s. also, if you are in an area where women SEW .. they aren't willing to pay a lot .. women who are too busy to sew will pay more. you have to find your 'market'.

but remember .. if you sit and make 6 or 8 dollies at once and only aski $15. to $20 each .. that is a nice little pile of pennies for doing something you love!

reemmber too .. that a 'name' and short story on a 'hang tag' always makes a dollie adorable and sometimes it is the STORY that sells the dollie!

I have literally made thousands of dollars selling my dollies over the years .. and the money has been 'icing on the cake'. I've met so many wonderful doll making friends through our doll club .. and have taught lots and lots of new friends to make dolls .. which truly makes my heart sing! A few of them have gone on to become EXTREMELY accomplished dollmakers and to start pattern-making businesses ... and being the 'wind' beneath their 'wings' ... well .. like the tv AD says: PRICELESS.

Thank you Frannie - I will keep these things in mind, most especially your attitude. At the moment I don't need money but really want to help my friend get her shop off to a good start - so even if I don't sell any of the dolls, its alright with me - I make them cuz I like them, they warm my heart, give me a respite to relax and create and have fun. My friend thought I could do a "dollie making class" at her shop.
That would give me the opportunity of making new friends, tho I feel ill equipped at the moment cuz I don't know alot myself yet about dollie making. I copied some of Rusty Pins tips about making them look more rustic/old/grunged, which I could pass on, too. That would be ok, right? That wouldn't be til sometime in the future. It's kind of neat that my friend found a display case of wood and it has plexiglass on the front with wood that makes it look like a house window - so it looks like You're looking in and seeing all the dollies sitting around in chairs (some wicker chairs, and rocking chairs) talking and laughing. Looks like you're on the front porch looking in - if you know what I mean....its warm and inviting and I'm decorating it too. Well, I didn't know last year at this time that I'd be doing this - traveling down this sort of road....I thank you again, again, again for offering the class.

you go gurl!!! wunnerful! wunnerful .. and i adore their names ..

have a little 'trick' for you to try ... to make their dresses a tad more 'fitted' ... stitch a diagonal line from the underarm (lowest part) up to about an inch from the arm pit.

then i put a high-waisted apron that ties under the armpits. hmmmm .. not sure i explained that very good .. if you e-mail me .. i can send you a picture of what i mean.

it just makes the sleeves fit tighter. xo

Thanks for your compliments, Frannie, Theresa & Nancy. Nancy, I have them in a display case at The Soap Shoppe here in Oregon. The soap lady and I trade eggs for soap - and she wants other things than just soap in her shop, so she displays them there. I haven't sold any yet, but I'm not tryin real hard cuz I like them alot and its difficult to part with them - they all have their own personalities (and by the way, my daughter is pg again so hopefully this one will be connected correctly and all will go well), but if someone wants to buy one, I'll sell it. Frannie, when I make the dress, I do take hold of the seam under the arm and make a little gather taking from the front side of the seam and gather a little towards the back side of the seam and tack it so it fits closer under the arm, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean for me to do. I think I would rather you showed me - I assume this would be done on the inside of the dress. I'll email you, thanks very much for your help.
