I am sitting here reading the latest Cluck and was surprised at the jewelry ideas MaryJane gave for the merit badges. She hinted online before about this, and I was sure I knew what she was up to, but I was wrong! So I thought I would share my idea in case anyone wanted to try this as well. I have been thinking about making a charm bracelet using my earned badges. Instead of printing them out on paper like MaryJane did, though, I am going to print them larger on shrink plastic, color them in, and heat them up so they shrink to size. Shrink plastic is readily available in many craft stores, and it's fun to watch it at work LOL.

Catherine, what a great idea. I have used it before and found it fun, funky and great to use in many formats. Thanks for the idea. Anybody trying it, make sure you make the hole for your bracelet (or whatever) BEFORE you bake it. Thanks again Catherine!!

That is a great idea Catherine-I just read The Cluck and LOVED the jewelry. I think I'll give it a go-I just happen to have some shrink plastic that's been sitting around for awhile. I guess I'll need to work on more merit badges as I'm only at two:-)
Thanks for the reminder about the hole Claudia-I would have forgotten for sure.

I just learned to use shrink plastic and love it! It makes beautiful charms. Would love to see pics when you're done!

FUN!! Shrinky plastic is not here, but saw many cute charm bracelets made with it online. I HATE it when those awesome craft supplies are NOT here for me to get GGGRRR   
Wouldn't this be awesome with pics from my brothers, my mom and dad???

That is another good idea Dutchy. My Daddy has been gone 26 years & my Mom is 92. I have some pictures of them when younger. What a good idea to make a bracelet of them along with my DH, my kids & grandkids. Thank you for the idea and picture. Is there a place where you can order shrink plastic from the States?

MaryJane loved the idea of using Shrinky Dinks, so she had me try it out with some of our badges. I used the Assortment kit that had "Frosted Ruff N' Ready" sheets, which are easy to color with colored pencil on the rough side, but nice and shiny on the other.
I traced, colored and cut out the badges using a template that I made and punched a hole in the top with an 1/8" hole punch. Next, I followed the instructions for baking. I've attached a template here for download: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/download/forum/shrinky-dinks-template.pdf. Enjoy!

Thought I'd share the results of my experimenting today, using the template Denali provided. I used the Shrinky Dinks for InkJet Printers which is white with a shiny side and a slightly "sticky" side. You print on the "sticky" side. Coloring pencils don't work on this because it's still too slick, but I used my Zig Writers. The only color that had a tendency to smear the black outlines was the yellow, but turned out okay anyway.
The only problem is the shrinkable plastic sheets are only 8 x 10 and the Sisterhood patch image was cut off the bottom.
I used my eyelet setting tool to punch the holes which is 1/8" and the holes seem just right for jump rings.
Soooooo, I have a printer that makes good color copies, so I'm going to try coping the images, rearranging them so they print onto the plastic so that I don't have them cut off. Of course, when I do my own design and layout I can keep that in mind . . at least if I'm going to print from my computer.
The horse and sisterhood shrunk to about 1 1/4" across, the hat and buttons to 1", the apples to about 15/16" and the light bulb and clothespins to about 7/8". I also have some of the Frosted Ruff 'n' Ready which I'll try for some of the other badges, after I get them ready.
It was fun . . . so now I'm getting ALL kinds of ideas!!!!

If you set your printing to (fit in area), the bottom won't be cut off...you just have to go into the settings area and it'll shrink to fit I believe!

On my printer it wasn't working . . . because the plastic is a full inch shorter at 10 inches than a regular sheet of paper at 11 inches. I'll figure something out, though.
But also, I don't want to use the reverse sisterhood one, so I don't want to make more of those.

For those that don't have scanners, you can take the pictures to any office store and they can do a reserve copy for you. I had to do this when I needed a picture put on transfer paper for a project and didn't have a scanner.
