I have recently tried the mixture of essential oils of citronella and geranium and mixed it with unscented lotion. Works pretty well.
Does anyone have anything they use that works?

I'm always looking for something that is natural that WORKS - the mosquitos here are awful. I have used the Burts Bees repellent before, and that seems to work pretty well, too. How much essential oil do you use in how much lotion?

There was only a tiny bit of the unscented lotion left in the bottle so just a drop or two of each or even one drop should do it. Test it out. Who cares if you smell like a citronella candle as long as the bugs bug off. The caterpillars are still awful here, they fall right on you and of course, being the girl I am, I scream each time one hits me lol.
Once again, it depends on the brand of oil you are using and if it is a true essential oil. Essencia (sp) puts out this product as an oil but I don't think it is a true 100% essential oil so I am not afraid of over doing it. If you mix your own, then if your oils are for sure 100% you might not need very much as they are pure stong oils.

I thought rue was supposed to not touch your skin as it caused allergic reactions? Am I remembering wrong?

I realize this will be late for most of us.....kudos to you gals in Florida and the West Coast

A few years ago I tried Badger Balm bug repellent. Wasn't able to find it for this summer and procrastinated like crazy, but will order some in time for next year.

This was a bad bad year for deer flies!

I use Vinegar of the Four Theives (the legendary remedy that dates back to the plague). I buy the premixed herbs from www.bulkherbstore.com It takes a few weeks to brew, but lasts very well in the fridge. Going on, it smells aweful, but once it's dry it smells very little.
