Hello to all the Christian farmgirls here who have become such good friends with each other! Nini, I will pray for you and your family. I will pray for strengthening of your eyes and your heart. So often the fear we face when our health is weak is almost as bad as the problem itself. I will pray God's peace on you.

Weeks ago I asked for your prayer as hubby and I took care of four children while my daughter and hubby were in France. The two weeks went well. The only one that got sick was me (much better than having one of the children sick) and I am doing better now. Hubby was a rock and really stepped in and helped me when I was not doing well. Thank you all for your prayers.

Lisa - I am SO, so happy to hear Jacob's wonderful news! Sending up another prayer right now for his total recovery!!!

Oh, girls - thank you SO much for your kind thoughts and prayers! I'm going to be fine, really. Just thinking about all that little Jacob and his family are going through, it makes me realize just how blessed I am, and how loving and good God is! That's good enough for me! :)

Hugs -

Nini

Bibles: Like others have said, there as SO many versions. I use a women's study bible NIV because it has lots of little side stories and facts nestled in there that are useful for a fuller understanding of what is going on in a passage. That's just my main one I like. There's all kinds of different study bibles... teen bibles, men's bibles, historical study bibles ... the added information is just meant to help you understand better what is already there.

I recommend plain language translations like New King James or New Century Version. "The Message Bible" is fun for cross reference. It elaborates and colors a passage with more words to help give you the full picture of what a verse is trying to say, but it is confusing as a stand alone bible.
Example:
Jeremiah 29:11-13
New International Version (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

The Message
"I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. 12"When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I'll listen. 13-14"When you come looking for me, you'll find me. "Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed." God's Decree. "I'll turn things around for you. I'll bring you back from all the countries into which I drove you"—God's Decree—"bring you home to the place from which I sent you off into exile. You can count on it.

It's longer, but it breaks down the verse and re-tells it in a big impact kind of way. Again, I recommend it for cross referencing only, it's very flowery and elaborates on an english translation.

Your main source of scripture should always be a translation that comes directly from the original greek manuscripts. Re-translation from the original sources is what has kept the bible pure for thousands of years, and that legacy needs to be protected.

You can read a good explanation of bible types here: http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Bible/BibleType.htm

A catholic bible is the same, but with "bonus" religious books in the back. They were added during the reformation to provide more support in catholic beliefs. I have never read them (should though, just haven't gotten around to it.) I can't vouch as to what they are about or what they add.

Avoid the LDS bible that they give away on TV, it's heavily edited to not conflict with The Book of Mormon. (Some people might say there's some kind of an agenda there...)

I also recommend a piece of fiction by CS Lewis, "The Great Divorce." It's not about married people. You can find it on Amazon for less than 6$.

Faith Healing:
I am suspicious of faith healers. It is one thing to pray for someone to get well and place the worry for the matter in God's hands and hope they do get well. (And people often do just that, and many do get well.)
It's another thing to say that a person can only be healed by a faith healer, and that you're disobeying or disrespecting God by seeing doctors or taking medicine or undergoing treatment. Obviously God had a part in those treatments developing! For goodness sake, allow him to use those methods to answer your prayers!
I'm even more upset by someone who runs a "faith healing ministry" and solicits heavy donations- usually on TV. That's a clear cut con.

Faith healing is something that persists because when Christianity was just getting started in Rome, Paul and other Church leaders had heavy help from The Holy Spirit and did a whole lot of faith healing. That was a pagan culture of people crying out for something different and real. Miracles got attention.
Today miracles happen all of the time and no one ever takes great notice. Real Faith Healing is a lot less common now, but then if it's real and it happened to you or through you, you wouldn't brag on it.

It would be limited to: "WOW! see this amazing thing God did right in front of me!!!"
Not: "I do this. I'm special because I can do it."

Unitarians:
"Unitarians adhere to strict monotheism, and maintain that Jesus was a great man and a prophet of God, perhaps even a supernatural being, but not God himself.[23] They believe Jesus did not claim to be God, and that his teachings did not suggest the existence of a triune God. Unitarians believe in the moral authority, but not necessarily the divinity of Jesus. Their theology is thus opposed to the trinitarian theology of other Christian denominations." -wikipedia

Basically, Unitarians are not part of the Christian club because they deny what the Bible says Jesus is.
They like the ideas behind Christianity, but they don't like the idea of Jesus being God (the reasons for that is up to each individual.) They seem to believe that reason and science cannot coexist with that concept of Jesus, so they got rid of it.

"The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated." ~Gandhi

"After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.” ~Will Rogers

The LDS bible is not Edited, it is Retranslated is some areas...Some might say you have an agenda by say there is an agenda. God bless.

Could I ask for healing prayers?

I should be in bed or on the sofa with my foot up, but you know how it goes - laundry, cheese making, garden, chickens, etc etc.

Dh, ds and myself, spent about 6 hours weeding and tilling and harvesting the garden yesterday (and we still didn't finish it). I spent the night nursing my right foot. I can't remember what the doctor called it last year, but it's that muscle that causes great pain in the heal with you walk. I also caused my sciatic nerve to act up. Between the two, I am a goner this summer if I don't let it rest. My kids are not "on the boat" with helping in the garden either (just ds). Just a lot of stuff going on here.

I plan to write some bible verses down to keep by my bedside (for many things), but could use extra prayers for the kids to help out and for quick healing.

Updates: The hospital is still dragging their feet on the kidney transplant, regarding dh and his sister. Mom is putting off her heart surgery (not sure why), we still don't have a buyer for the buckling. We had one inquiry, but nothing after that. He's not handling the heat well either. We put a box fan in the barn and it seems to help.

Praying Kristina.
Wow! SG I read that repost and how could one not praise God for a healing? I was healed and my twisted leg that had one foot dragging a bit when I walked is healed. I stand solidly on that foot and now where my shoes wore out quickly on that one leg, I have a pair that is more than 2 years old. Praise God! No one prayed for me, I was standing in church worshiping felt someting travel down that leg and HEALED. God wants us to be well we just have a nasty habit of short circuiting his will.

Speaking of healing, I placed a prayer request for a chapter farmgirl that lives close to me. Her mother had an infection in her leg due to diabetes and could not walk. She had her mother put into a nursing home and they told her if she did not have her foot removed, she would die.

As of today, her mother is much better, and still has her foot. She is walking in between rails, getting out of her bed and playing cards with my farmgirl friend. She has a long road to go yet, but she is healing in her foot and leg and doctors said she would die within a few months. We all believed the doctors. I get updates from her and she is so happy that farmgirls sent cards and prayers. Her Mom may eventually be able to return to her own home some day.

Just wanted to update on that and say thanks for prayers for me.

Yesterday was a series of bad events. First we find out our insurance policy was dropped due to dh not doing an on-line survey by a specific date. We not only lost our co-pays, but don't have prescription coverage. We are paying about $500.00/month and won't even be able to use it. Such a waste of money. Dh said he was so upset he almost threw up at work. We worked soooo hard to keep it the way it was.

Then, dh loaned the farm truck to his nephew, who returned it with a broken window. This is the only vehicle I have to drive.

Then, yest there is more, Dh came home to tell me that he's got an interview with a job that is about 4 hours from home.

Again, thanks for prayers.

Kristina if he gets the job do you have to move or will you only get to see him on days off? Definately will be praying. 11 years ago I had foot prob sounds similar to yours. Dr gave me steroid shot in heel that hurt big time but never had prob since. Amy I have been thinking of you with the Co wildfires. Are you alright? Cherime thank you for your post. I am in total agreement with you. He is such a good God.

I need to ask for prayers. My husband quit his job today because of politics and safety.(it got really bad) We are hoping that he can find something else that is stable and without the issues like his last one. Timing is not great but sometimes you have to stand up for what is right.

Thanks for thinking of me with the fires.

I am getting settled into my new place. Money is going to be tight until I get my first couple paychecks in. Hoping I can make it by.

The fire in Colorado Springs burned one of my favorite places to go as a kid growing up there, and the family of a friend from grad school were evacuated from the are and are now staying with her in Denver. Here there is a small fire burning across the highway and a little east of my new town. It is not too worrisome right now, we aren't even on pre-evacuation and the wind has been pretty calm today. But I'm ready to go anyway, just in case. I have seen several helicopters in the area making water dumps.

So definitely keep praying for rain for us.

Oh, and pray that I can find a good church in my new town. I'm going to visit my first one this Sunday - but it's always a little scary visiting these new places. (I'm always afraid I'll step into a place that makes their visitors stand up to be recognized, or worse . . . )

Amy and Lesely - keeping you in my prayers.

As for hubby getting the job, he plans to work there during the week and come home on the weekends at first. Not sure about anything after that. I guess we'll know more about the interview after Monday.

Tomorrow is the interview for Hubby. Please keep him (and us as a family) in your prayers. He has to drive quite a distance.

Also, please keep my 18 yo dd in your prayers. She's looking into joining the Marines. She's made some irrational decisions lately, so I am praying she makes the right one about this.

Hi Nini, I am sending up prayers for you and healing that every thing works out for you like it should and that your eye tests go very well and that you are able to get the other cardiologist very soon. Just take care Nini ok.
My prayers are there for you Kristina with the loss of your and your DH insurance, maybe it is in God's plan to get you into a better one soon. I am praying that maybe if he gets this job maybe they can put him in another place closer to home.
Amy my prayers go out to you for safety there in Colorado and to all our other farmgirl friends who live there dealing with the fires, blessings and keep really safe.
Kristina I am really praying for your daughter who might join the Marines. I pray that she really thinks it over before joining and decides if it is the right thing to do or maybe join another branch of the military instead.
Shirley Jean I am glad you are feeling better and glad your hubby was there for you when you needed him. That was wonderful.
Pamela Jean Thanks for the info on the bible and other religions, I enjoyed reading that about somethings I didn't know.
Cherime, God is such a good God and to know you have been healed by him is so awesome and I am glad your being able to walk normally now.. I just can't imagine how you felt when that happened.

I just ask for prayer for my housing to go through soon. The paperwork is with my Landlords now and then when I turn it in the people come to inspect and I am not a whole lot worried about that it is just taking so long and it it getting more difficult to pay my rent otherwise all is great thanks to our Awesome God!

Blessings everyone.
love

Darlene, will be praying for your housing situation.

Today, DH is driving to his interview. We discovered it's about a 3 hour drive, not 4, but still he's driving a long way (during holiday travel too). I almost went with him, but stayed behind today. Just lots of stress with everything going on.

Welcome, Stephanie! You're going to love it here!

Thank you, Darlene! I actually couldn't make it to my eye appointment for the third injection... LONG story. They called Friday to see when I could reschedule, but I missed the call. I will have to call them back tomorrow. I cannot see out of over 2/3 of my eye now. Very annoying - all I want to do is rub my eyes clear, but obviously, that's not going to help. I'll be fine, though. I just don't think the injections were working at all. They want to have me come in for a full follow-up exam (as if I had had the third injection), and then depending upon the findings, we may or may not proceed with #3. We'll see.

Haven't had a chance to call the 2nd cardiologist - will do so tomorrow. I'm not playing around or purposely putting it off - I know it's important. We've just had a lot of family things to contend with which have sucked up all of my time (running around, phone calls, preparing, etc.). I think I may have mentioned that our young grandnephew (14) and grandniece (4) may have to come live with us... Well, let's just say that there has been a lot to deal with there. I don't mean to be esoteric - it's too much to get into, and I really probably shouldn't - I hope you all understand. I'm just overwhelmed and trying to take it one step at a time... and there are a lot of steps... and skips... and jumps... and twists... and turns... It's just not a pretty situation, it's heart-wrenching, it's shocking, it's frustrating and it's complicated (of course!). It'll be all right, I know it will, in time. 'Just have to trust the Lord - I know He has everything under control. Please just pray for these two wonderful children. They need to have a happy, healthy and wholesome life! And please also pray for their parents - my niece, their mother, and their father. I really can't say more - I hope you understand - but your prayers would be SO greatly appreciated!

Hugs and blessings to you all!

Nini

Oh Nini
You are definitely in my prayers. I will pray that everything works out for you and that you can get it settled quickly or at least most of it so that you can take care of your own health as well. I know it is hard when there are so many things up in the air, but take care of yourself so you can take care of the others...Blessing Nini...
I will put you on my prayer chains.
God Bless, and thanks for the prayers on my housing.
love you all

My prayers are with you Nini, make sure you take time out for yourself while everything is in turmoil. The Lord has a plan in all of this, I hope that you are able to keep focused on the road ahead and know that he is walking at your side ready to carry you when needed.

Hello ladies,
Just an update to tell you that hubby did not get the job that was 3-4 hours away.
We still haven't heard about the insurance, but hubby said several others got denied. Not looking good.
Hubby's sister is now looking into another hospital for the kidney transplant. It's about 4 hours away from us.
I'm re-learning how to milk the goats. I'm going to be milking for dd so she can go camping this next weekend.
Thanks for praying for us to get a buyer for the buckling. We got another e-mail, but nothing concrete at all yet.
The Lord provided us with rain last night. I am so thankful.

Hope all is well with you all.
