Mr. Tom Turkey that I helped butcher yesterday is in the oven! Hurray! We are going to have a full fledged thanksgiving dinner tonight. Lots of mashed potatoes and gravy, turkey and stuffing. Yum! I am even going to dig some carrots from the garden and we are going to have some roasted veggies.
Good for you, Alee! You'll have to tell us how it was done now. I am proud of you, farmgirl! And I bet it will be a really good turkey. Did they tell you to cook it real long and slow? I want to go butcher one of mine now too. Also, do you know how much it weighed?
He took pity on me and did the chopping becuase I had never seen it done and I didn't want to miss or not hit hard enough and make him suffer. I think next time I could do it myself though. I might try a chicken first...
I am cooking it long and slow mostly because that is how I always do my birds. He had lots of tasty fat on him so I know he will be good.
We didn't exactly weigh him but after butchering I am making an educated guess that he is about 25lbs. He isn't quite as heavy as Nora but close.
Yummy! Please feel free to send me the leftovers!!

Turkey is out and golden brown. It made a huge pot of gravy that is AMAZING. YUMMY. It has a wonderful mouthfeel- lots of natural gelatin. My tummy is so full. *bliss*
