I know it sounds odd, but I acquired a guinea pig and was wondering if anyone knows about or recommends a cage waterer that doesn't leak! His cage is always wet by the waterer. I'm not sure if he's playing with it or it's just a cheap waterer...Not real familiar with rodents and their care.

Have you cleaned out the spout really well? Ours used to leak a ton until I found a piece of hay stuck inside. Drips are normal, however. Also your piggy might just like playing in the water or gnawing on the spout!

I hate those waterer things. They always drip and leak. I used to have gerbils and guinnea pigs when I was younger and they would always have a slow drip.

Can you put a small bowl underneath to catch the drips? Or would he just dump that over?

Have you tried filling the waterer to the very brim and then applying the spout thingy? You want to get all the air out and that should make a big difference in the dripping. Good luck, Carol

I'm with Lessie. We just got a guinea pig recently and it seems to make a difference making sure all the air is out. There's still a few drips every so often, but not like I'm used to with other animals I had when I was younger who had the same waterer. :)

Ok, I tried filling the waterer clear full and a little bowl with a rock in it under the waterer. I raised the waterer so he couldn't move it so much and play with it and today was the first day that his bedding wasn't wet under the waterer!!! Thanks gals! I knew you gals would help me find a solution.

Another trick is this: After you fully fill up the waterer, turn it with the spout end up, and give it a little squeeze. Then point the spout down again and release. This gives some negative pressure to the bottle and creates a better vacuum. Often, this will correct your leaky problems!
