My friend up the road got one of my little doelings a few years ago. Along with her wethered brother. They live in a beautiful place at the foot of the mountain and have been doing great. But the doe has had a place on her back that was like an open wound. I mixed up some aloe and turmeric and he's been putting that on her. Well, that has healed but now it's going down her left side. And there is a few spots on her neck. We have no idea what it is or what's causing it. Has anyone heard of this? He is going to keep appying the aloe and turmeric and see if that clears it up. But for it to be spreading is weird. So I need help.

Could it be a fungus, ringworm is a fungus. Or maybe and allergy. My dog does that and it is an allergy.

Kris is it possible to get a picture of the sores??? There are a couple of things it could be but without a picture it is shooting in the dark and I would hate to suggest something until I could see them.

I googled ringworm but didn't see any pictures. From the description it doesn't look like it would be that. The places on her back that are healing are scabbed over and there is no hair at all. She does seem to be biting-licking-scratching the new areas now. And with the turmeric-aloe paste it will be all yellow and you wouldn't really be able to see what it looks like. I will try to remember to take my camera in the morning when I go walk and try to figure out how to email a picture. I am so sorry I can't be more specific. I have never had a problem like this. I have no idea what it could be. Also it said that ring worm is usually caused by really wet conditions. We had no rain at all this whole summer. So that makes me think it's not that. My friend's son said it looks like some flesh eating disease. She seems to be fine and is eating.

Thanks for all your input.

Goats are prone to abscesses, big-time. If there is a boil-like spot that then pops and drains, that's probably what you are dealing with. It can be problematic, as one form, caseous lymphadenitis, is contageous to the rest of the herd. That said, they also get abscesses from puncture wounds. Sadly, an antibiotic is in order if that's what she has.

Kris that is a head twister...

Your right it does not sound like ringworm but there may be some type of bug that is causing this. A skin scrapping and a look at the vet would be helpful. I also looked up if there is a plant that might be causing this and so far no luck. Also, has the owners used some type of chemical around that she might be having a reaction too?? I will keep looking and also see if I can ask a few of my goat friends too..

Keep us in the loop.

Well of course I didn't even take pictures this morning. But he's putting the aloe-turmeric on her so it wouldn't show good anyway.

I have never seen abcesses so I am not sure about that. But do they have alot of them? This doe has alot of places that are bad. She is with her brother who is a wether. He is fine. Nothing on him at all. I wonder if he is biting her? And they don't get any feed just grass. There is nothing new in their pasture. They were let out today into the yard next door to eat all the bushes and weeds over there.

We'll keep an eye on her. She is supposed to get bred this month. I don't know now about putting a buck in with her with all this going on. She will have to be completely healed first.

Thanks so much for ya'lls help here.

Look up CL. Supposedly, the pus is very cheese like and thick-is supposed to be extremely contagious, so it is best not to pop them. The pus can be tested but many people suggest putting these goats down and do a major sanitation of the whole farm. People vary greatly on this from radical to conservative, so you are likely to get lots of opinions.

I really don't think this is CL because looking at that picture her sores are not around the lymph nodes at all. Hers started right on top of her backbone and rump on top. Those are healed but still no hair growth. Now the newer sores are going down the middle of her left side on the stomach. They are not near lymph nodes like in that picture. I will try to talk him into taking her to a vet just to test her now. But she looks healthy other than this mess.

Sherry, You took the words right out of my mouth. That was the first thing I thought of when I read the description. I too wonder if it might be mange. It sure sounds like it. I think I would get a vet to look at it.

Ok, I just looked that up too. There's one place that says to use 1cc/20 pounds of Ivermec pour on. Does that sound about right? I just called my friend and had to leave a message. They have cows so have that Ivermec pour on. I hope that will get rid of this. Thanks for the info.

We've had experience with CL at our farm and this doesn't sound like it at all. Mange? I would go that route as well.

Well, the other day when we were walking, the goats were out and on the road. And we noticed that the wether was mounting the doe alot. I went ahead and put them back in the field. But they were out again on the way back. And he was still jumong on her. And right where his feet were is where all the sores mostly were. And he is alot bigger than her too. Also we noticed she was dragging her right back leg a bit too. Anyway, I think we have solved the mystery disease. It's her brother the wether. She is alot better and healing with using the turmeric and aloe paste. Now we just need to find another doe for company and get rid of the wether. Or move him in with a buck so he won't be bothering poor Adabelle.

Anyway, just thought I would let ya'll know this. Has anyone ever had this happen? My friend only has those 2 goats.

Well, I'm glad she doesn't have some kind of disease!! We think about stuff like that with the chickens and roosters but not with the goats! LOL!!

Thanks Kris for sharing the outcome with us - your right we all learn thru the experiences of others. I guess the brother needs a good hoof triming and removed from sister. Glad she is on the mend and hopefully will soon be without the love sick brother.
