Wahooo, I am going to be able to get one more camping trip in befor I have to tuck my trailer away for the Season... I am hosting a 'HO-Down Halloweenie' camping gathering.... So do me a favor & keep your fingers, eyes & legs crossed for us that we will get to have nice (no rain) weather for our camping. We will halloween decorate our little vintage trailers and go 'Trick-o-Treating' at each others trailers.... Anyone else getting one last Glamping trip in?

Grace, Our favorite campground that is nearby (11 miles) has a Halloween weekend every year. Everyone really gets into it decorating their campsites and it is a blast. The kids trick or treat from 5- 6:30 and then I have a big dinner with chili and halloween themed appetizers. I label all the bottles of liquid refreshment (martha stewart.com) and we have personalized orange and black wine glasses. My 2 sisters and I dress as very Glamorous (but still fat) witches. I even have a little "baby". She is a bride of Frankenstein doll wrapped in Haloween fabric, that I carry around. My mom loves to go and even comes outside the camper for this one. I will try to post pictures this year. Have fun Michele

How fun! It's been years since we went to a campground with halloween gatherings.
We hope to get in at least 1 more trip before the end of the season. We can camp in the winter. We have heat & all terrain tires on our pop-up. But something always seems to come up.
Fall is my favorite time to camp. The leaves, the hickory nuts - no mosquitoes!

Oh Lucy...I'm Home!!!!!!!!!!! lol! I had a wonderful time Glamping with old & new friends.... Mornings started out sitting by the river, drinking hot coffee & chatting with friends..... Then as the rest of the gals awoke we circled around the fire pit chatting about our plans for the day and drinking more coffee.... can we say "AMPED" ! lol! Dinner was communial,,like Mana,,,,food just kept appearing, and our meals were yummy to say the least. We did the progressive wine & dine at the trailers and the main meal was at our main gatherin site...yep we wore silly costums and mega over dosed on candy/chocolate... It's amaizing how much fun a bunch of ladies can have when they don't have to be a Grown-up... I posted a few pics of some of the trailers on my katmom blog, take a peek when you have time. Happy Trails....

The camping trips sound wonderful! I've been scouring the internet for books regarding camp cooking as I'd like to improve my outside cooking skills for backyard camping. I wonder what some of your favorite campfire recipes might be that are good for a beginner?

hey Patricia, Dutch Ovens are really easy and there are various ways to use a Dutch Oven.... MaryJane Lee from Murrieta, Calif. has a great Chicken & White bean Chili recipe, and actually if you can get your hands on a "Sisters on the Fly" book (check out Amazon.com) there are a bunch of easy peasy recipies that are from the members. Easy & perfect for camping. Even though I have a stove in my trailer, I still like to dutch oven/crock pot cook outside. One of my easy recipies is to use V-8 juice(32oz) as a soup base, then add a can(drained) of white beans, kidney beans, butter beans(lima) & can of corn, then dice up some celery, tomato, onion, bell pepper...and then I take 1/2 a link of a Turkey Kilbasa and cut it up(like peperoni)and toss in...let simmer, oh and salt & pepper to taste...then seperatley I boil up some small shell pasta which I toss into the soup bowl just before I pour in the 'soup'...it really is good & easy..You can kick it up a notch with a dash of tobassco sauce or if you like it spicy use spicy V-8 juice....it's all a matter of taste. Served w/corn bread on a cold night...oh yum!

My husband and I went camping last weekend at Kanopolis Lake,Kansas. I had a three day weekend and my husband took a vaacation day. The days were beautiful for some great hikes. In the evening it wasn't too cold. We made chili one evening for supper and had beef filets and corn-on-the-cobb the next evening. I, also, made a delicious peach dump pie (recipe from Sisters on the Fly book). We camp in a tent and I,also, like to cook on our trips. Part of camping is the cooking so I don't like to go easy, necessarily. In between hikes, I even had time to do some reading and relaxing. Before coming home on Sunday, we did some driving and site seeing. We are thinking about getting some kind of trailer so we can more easily just go.
