I know I just posted in the Sweet potato pie thread about this same thing, but a large part of my heart yearns for a slower lifestyle. So...I'm re-establishing a Sunday supper in my little household.
In times past people would all come together, maybe at home or at Grandma's house to have a sit down meal and a relaxing time together as a family. Family time seems to be getting plowed under with activities and general rush and bustle.This idea of sitting down together and being thankful and enjoying a good home-cooked meal is very dear to me.
I thought it might be fun to do theme suppers =) Our first one is a southern comfort supper (not the booze by that name tho  ) ...I'm still looking for ideas in my family recipe collection and in my piles of cook books!!! 
So many yummo choices!
I will post my menu once I make up my mind
Just wanted to share my ideas with all of you

Fried chicken & mashed potatoes! Maybe a healthier version-baked chicken & mashed ptatoes! Yummmy!

I tried to do something like this the latter part of August, Annika...all Summer long it's just been too hot, here, to eat and my dh has no appetite when the humidity is high, but the weather started breaking and darnit, I was determined to have a proper roast. I first made Jamie Oliver's roasted chicken with veggies and homemade chicken gravy from the pan drippings. It was SO good, but the kitchen was still hot the next morning!!! The next week, I made a Moroccan beef stew over noodles for friends to share with us, and I've not done any more "proper" Sunday's since. We're back to the heat (90's this week--in September!!) and now dh is working on Sundays...
I wish you much joy with your Sunday meals. It's important to have that time to reconnect, regardless of what your week will bring. Great idea, enjoy it!!!

We try to do that every Sunday. I love having all my family here or their houses now. My parents just bought a house near us and we've been there several times so far.
You have got to try Ree Drummond's pot roast. It is SO darn good and so easy to make. Ya'll will love it. She's the Pioneer Woman. You could do it in a crock pot I guess.

Jonni, I can't cook or really eat when it gets that hot. I live on cold smoothies of the healthy non-fat yogurt type =P
It is supposed to get pretty warm toward this weekend, and I am wavering on the cooking a Sunday meal thing if it gets too hot. I won't be able to eat it and Drew will just pick at it....So, I guess we'll see, but I am determined to try as soon as I can stand hanging over a hot stove.
You sound like a marvellous cook! Yummy!

Kris, I'm glad your family is getting some time together  I'll have to try that pot roast !!!!
I don't know why I'm set on Sundays, just a tradition kind of thing I suppose

Annika, I just commented on the Sweet Potato post too. I love your Sunday Supper idea. I think we should all embrace this and spend time with our families over the dinner table. If it's too hot, there's nothing saying a Sunday Supper couldn't be something like a tomato scooped out and filled with a Chicken Salad or maybe a Taco Salad. Of course anything off the grill would work and not heat up the kitchen. I think the idea is not so much the food but the spending time together and reconnecting with our loved ones.

The crock pot is a wonderful summer saving machine! It does not heat up your kitchen but gives you (almost) the oven taste. I think there are some things that only an oven can do justcie to. I like being able to put my crock pot on & it is ready when we get home from church! No rushing around when everyone is hungry now!

I love the crock pot, but in all honesty, I don't utilize its full potential. I have 2 crock pot cookbooks that were given to me as gifts, but I really don't like the sound of any of the recipes, especially the ones with chicken (thighs or bone in)...
Karla, if you have some great recipes, I might be willing to give it a shot!

We do this every Sunday! Most Sundays we have company over for dinner after church at night. Hubby cooks because I sure can't. Since Hubby's work schedule is fanorky, it's our one day that we actually can all eat together.I have a crockpot, but I NEVER use it. I just plain can't find any recipes. :(

I LOVE that word "fanorky!!"
Anyway, ya'll should check out the "NOT Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook." It is my absolute favorite for slow cooker recipes! There are some really good recipes using boneless chicken breasts, not just thighs and legs. I actually have a chuck roast in the slow cooker right now using one of the recipes (sort of) from that cookbook.
I also like the idea of reviving Sunday Suppers! I miss those from my childhood. Unfortunately, we don't have any family close by to get together with. :(

I'm glad that you like the idea !
I think all that really matters is that we take the time to slow down and re-connect. And since I like to cook, I love the idea of a sit down supper/dinner =)
