Well Ladies...I need your help! I have several very old (1929 & 1937) vintage Florida License plates. I have scrubbed them up and they are still pretty rusty.
Does anyone know if they are worth anything?
I'm also looking for some crafty ideas on what I can make out of them. Any ideas?
I brainstormed about dangling some trinkets to make wind chimes, but that's as far as my creativity has gotten. Please lend me your crafty brains!
Thanks

Marie: The plates folded down could make a good roof on a birdhouse. In fact, I think I saw that in a MJF magazine. Marly

You're right. That was in this past issue of MJF. I'll put that on my list of ideas. Thanks

Marie, a lot of us sisters...'Sisters on the Fly' gals use them to make the front & back 'cover' of our trailer scrap books. Just measure & mark the holes (from the plates) onto your cardstock/paper,,,hole punch and then put thr paper between the plates and use links (like the ones for keys) to hold the front plate, paper & back plate together....Great for pics, autographs & misc souvieners & notes about our traveling & glamping trips. I would suggest cleaning and then spraying a coat of clear varathane (sp) over the plates to prevent rust from ruining the paper or cothing, etc. The plates need to be the same size....as for the holes, they need to be the round ones where the screws go in. I have one with a Washington plate on one side & a California on the other side to represent my favorite states, I forgot to mention, using the plates, trace around the sheets of paper, how ever many pages you want and then cut out the sheets to insert into yout Lic. plate book.. >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. Wow! Those are great plates! My Grandfather use to collect plates back in the 50's & 60's. He had a wall of them behind his CB base unit in his hallway. He'd sit there in the evening after supper and talk to his CB friends 'til late. I use to read all his plates and marvel at all the different states they came from. It was amazing to a kid!

I've seen collections of license plates from each state, cut in the shape of the state as it appears on a map of the US, then each plate from each state is assembled into a wall-art map of the US.
Say to them, may the Lord bless you and protect you, May the Lord smile upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace. (Numbers 6:23-26)

Ooh! This is so fun. I'm loving all the responses from you girls!
Judy - my grandfather was a CBer too. He had a back bedroom with his CB in it. When I read your response to my husband (a CBer, himself) I could see the wheels turning in his head. He smiled and gave it the thumbs up
Thanks!

I have seen them made into purses. I don't know the exact way to make them but they were cute.

Darlene, I've seen the purses too and loved the idea. They were too small for me tho...I'm a totebag Gal! ;-) Marie, that's so cool that we both had CB-Gramps! I love it! They were a big thing back then...a way of communicating with folk all over the place. I wish I knew what "Handle" he used! I was just a kid....didn't know much about them then! Ok...I just talked to Mom and she said it was a Hamm-Radio and all those plates I remember were the Hamm numbers of the users. Neat! They must have shared them with each other like we shared Senior pictures when we were in H.S. hmmmm.... Chandra, I love the cut-out idea...how clever is that?/!
