You know the one. The old standby, good-luck-in-the-kitchen, reach for time and again apron

This is a bit tough for me since I have a bunch that I love. Last year I retired my Great aunt's apron, because it is getting so frail, but it is a lovely half apron made of some kind of stiff sheer-ish fabric and featuring a 1940's style western desert theme with burro and cactus everywhere. She ALWAYS wore this apron when we came to visit and considered it her "lucky" apron. Wore it even at holiday times, though she had several holiday themed aprons. So it is retired with much regret and lots of loving memories of holidays spent at her house and learning to cook under her somewhat fussy guidance. So many wonderful memories in that old fragile bit of cloth
too precious to lose.

So....my NEW go-to apron was lovingly made by our own talented Cee-Jay! It is a light green sturdy cotton and has a lovely all-over pattern of bees and sunflowers...I just love it since it covers the upper half of me, which I tend to dump things on all the time and fits around my chubby body flatteringly and is comfortable to wear for hours on end!

I even wore it to the doctor when I burned the heck out of myself at the grill and has been to our local co-op store a couple of times too. ( PSSSST! Cee-Jay, make some holiday aprons, if you haven't already!)

My second go-to apron is from my BF's Mom and almost-Mom-in-law to me and dear, dear friend Fay Morris...It was a gift and was made by North Idaho Mennonite ladies! it is pink with flowers and brown polka dots, and I love it too, since it is made along the same line as the one Cee-Jay made for me. It is sooooo girly and cute, I almost hate getting flour on it

Mamma Fay is a wonderful cook and could cook on the top of a mountain as well as in her own kitchen...she is in her 80's now and is a dear, dear woman to me. I have learned so much from her and she has been second mother to me for years now and I wear it with a sense of being hugged by this wise, fierce little lady and do my best to make Chili Rellenos half as well as her!

Tell me your apron's stories! Who made them it? who wore it before you...Every apron tells a story!

My favorite one is a purple apron made by fellow farm girl Karla. I smile every time I put it on and I just love it.

I have several favorites. Lately, I find myself reaching for my cherry print full apron with black background, because it is so cheerful and goes with everything. I also love my blue toile apron that is made from heavy duty canvas fabric. I bought a couple of really girly, v neck halter-style aprons online, but I haven't been brave enough to tie them on yet.

My favorite apron is a red one given to me by my Mother when we lived in Florida. It has a recipe on the front that reads like this:
Recipe for a Military Wife:

1 1/4 cup Patience
1 teaspoon Courage
1 pound Adaptability
3/4 cup Tolerance
Dash of Adventure
Splash of Humor

With the above ingredients, add 2 tablespoons of elbow grease. Leave alone for one year (or more)! Marinate with salty tears.
Pour off excess fat. Sprinkle every so often with money. "Knead" dough till payday. Season with international spices. Bake for twenty years or until done. Serve with Pride!

Back then I was just getting started in my life as military wife...now this recipe has more meaning than I ever imagined...:)

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

One of my favorite aprons I have is a green gingham apron. Someone must have put a world of time in this apron because it has hand embroidery flowers all over it, and the flowers are all colors. My apron is a half apron ,and it is a company apron ( meaning it is a dressing up apron).

I bought this apron at a community Mennonite action for $5.00.

I love this apron. I got it a few years ago at my favorite craft show.

I don't know if you can see it real good, but the purple one I got from Mary jane and Meg for being FGOTM for Sept. I love it. Then the green one Ruth made for me. It is a one of a kind just for me with all kinds of farm animals on it and it's reversable. And the one in the middle is a half apron my mom got me for Christmas from Pier 1. The other 2 are full aprons.

And this is what I see out my kitchen door almost every morning if I am late feeding them.

My favorite apron is one that an old friend gave to me for Christmas 2009. It is a prairie flower print and I feel like a pioneer woman when I wear it! When I first got it I would match my clothes to it whenever we had company. :-) Now I just put it on without thinking about if it matches or not. :-)

My favorite changes from time to time. I have a zillion aprons and wear one all day every day at home doing daycare. (my uniform with long flowy cotton skirts or jeans and tee shirt) Right now my favorite is the one I have one. It is covered in different tractors and is a 1940's style apron made by our own Grace Huffman. I love love love her aprons.
