We started last Monday....awesome start to the year. I teach biology and chemistry to high school students. But the best part? I start my day teaching biology to freshmen at the school FARM...yep...I said FARM! We have a Vo-Ag program with 100 acre farm where we raise sheep, pigs, cows, barley, and alfalfa. We also have a commercial sized greenhouse where kids raise bedding plants for sale in the spring. You just can't have a bad day when it gets to start on a farm! :) Good luck and have a great year to my fellow educators!

That is awesome! Do the students get to learn how to use the fleece to spin wool in art class???? I wish I could come to your school.

Have taught PreK for over 25 years but took a leave of absence this school year to stay home & care for my elderly mother-in-law. I sure miss it!! Love the excitement of a new school year!!

I work 3 1/2 days as an academic tutor at the local primary school. The kids start tomorrow. I am filling in for a teacher on Friday, then starting my regular job on Tuesday. I love having the summer off, but I really do miss the kids.
Have a great year everyone.

I work as an elementary library media specialist. We start early down here - 8/5 was the first student day. Great to be back to work and seeing the kids/coworkers, but I am looking forward to our Fall Break in three weeks! DH and I have a special trip planned. |

Karen O...nobody at the school teaches them to spin the wool. But what a cool thing that would be! I try to share as much as I can with my students about the things I cook and can and grow...I want them to have an appreciation for where our food comes from and for our foremothers (and fathers).

I haven't been on the forum in while because I have been so busy with the new school year!
I teach middle school science, and help run our schools organic community garden. My husband teaches middle school technology, and runs our ski club.

I've been gone awhile too. Elderly parents, 2 teenagers at home, and moved to a new school. It's been a hectic year.
My district move our 5th graders to the Middle School. So after 32 years in elementary I now teach Science and Social Studies 5 times a day. Still not sure I like Middle School. But I now have more time in the evenings for my sons, goats and horse. So there are some trade offs.
I'm glad to see other teacher on the site.
