I love all the fall/winter holidays. How about you? Do you have a favorite?

Channah - I love Christmas. I just love Christmas. My favorite time of year is fall. But, oh, it's Christmas. The Nativity, church bells, carols sung with loved ones, family gatherings, the bright eyes of children, the knowing smile of the aged, reading the Christmas Story, celebrating Advent, hot cider with cinnamon sticks, candy canes, baking cookies, flour-snow blanketing the kitchen, the smell of cinnamon and spice in the air, candles aglow, making gifts, writing out Christmas greetings, bringing out the decorations - making new and reminiscing with the old, the tree - oh! the tree!, a beautiful angel, stringing popcorn and cranberries, tin Santa molds, holiday movies, red bows on kraft paper wrappings, filling the stockings, ribbon candy in a sparkly covered glass dish, light displays at the fairgrounds, horse drawn sleighs, snowball fights, tassel hats and bright red cheeks, my husband sheltering me under the wing of his warm wool coat, warm kisses on cold lips, hot chocolate by the bonfire, smoke from hearth wafting up through the night-chilled air and icing the moon, balsam boughs, pinecone birdfeeders with long red ribbons, jingle bells, snowflakes falling, Jack Frost's lacework on the window panes, poinsettias for the neighbors, treats for the clergy, packages arriving in the mail, Christmas cards with pictures of faraway loved ones, Italian feast on Christmas Eve, the warm glow of the tree after midnight Mass, my husband assembling toys, cinnamon coffee cake in the morning, my son sneaking present peeks, my husband transforming back into a little boy, the dog's chew toy wrapped in a bow, calls to old friends, choo-choo trains in the attic, cold-creaky floors, cotton-cold sheets slowly turning into cozy-warm beds, and visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads... Oh, yes... for me, it's Christmas!

God gave us two hands... one to help ourselves, and one to help others!

I love autumn due to the breezy weather and crispness in the air. I love seeing the colors and snuggling under quilts and working on quilts and knitting. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it's the holiday that's not as commercialized & at its core is thankfulness and family and sharing.

I love Halloween! I think it's fun and a great time to just be silly. Plus, I'm a little biased. It's also my wedding anniversary. My DH and I decided to pick Halloween so we could have fun anniversary parties and when we renew our vows someday it will be in costume. We haven't decided between a western theme or a full on masquerade ball. That's the only reason we haven't done it yet.

Nini, Wow!! Such wonderful descriptions! I wanna have Christmas at your place We do many of the things you describe which makes the holiday so special. I guess I struggle with the rush feeling. Been trying to figure out ways to "preserve" the meaning of Christmas and the beauty. Thank you for such a beautiful telling of the holiday.

I would have to say Thanksgiving. It holds so many good memories for me with family over the years. I love the food and the smells and the family togetherness. Just love it. And there is no stress. To me anymore, Christmas is way too stressful. I know it's the way I make it and every year I say I am not going to spend so much or worry so much, but I do.

I love Christmas! I just love the smells, lights and getting together with family and friends. Halloween is a close second, mainly because my kids love it so it's a lot of fun for me and my husband too.

My favorite holiday's are Halloween and Thanksgiving. It isn't that I don't like Christmas. I do, but I love fall. We stack up the scary movies for Halloween and I just love Thanksgiving. I really miss the cool crispy days of fall in Ohio. I can't get use to the south Texas falls.

Plus apple things and pumpkin things. MMMmmmm

I think I'd have to say Halloween, I love fall, the cool air leaves changing color, just walking in the woods with the color and smells. I collect scarecrows and put out candles and pumpkins. Christmas is too much pressure and I always feel I never measure up in the gift department. maybe just in my head, but I don't enjoy christmas time

Thanksgiven hands down, cookin for days and all the fancy dinnerwear comes out, the beautiful tableclothes, makin pies, pies and more pies, adding more food and chairs, then draggin in old doors and settin them on sawhorses to make more tables cause the list of people keeps ona growin. Family, friends and neighbors, plus new to town and no where to go, and them strangers that were hitchen thru town that daddy or big brother brought home. Prayen and laughen, some crying too when you realize whos no longer gonna be here. Kids sneaking tastes of cranberry salads, grabing a peice of turkey and runnin. Someone constantly asking what they can do to help, more people pullin up in their trucks and cars, getting out with baskets of food, and we are startin to think we could feed about half of Missouri by now and still have left overs. Oh my goodness, I sure miss them days

Thanksgiving and the 4th of July for me. Thanksgiving because it is family and food without the hoopla of gifts and craziness that Christmas has become, and the 4th because it is my birthday and my daughter's too.

I'm a holiday junkie and love the whole season. From Halloween to New Years, with a special emphasis on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think it's because I, too, LOVE autumn and that starts the whole holiday ball rolling.

Nini, I love your Christmas description. I love Halloween but not the gravestone, bloddy stuff. I love the old hallow's eve. To those who feel rushed durign Christmas, I am completly shopped, wrapped and mailed, christmas carded and decorated by Dec 1. This allows me the time for the parties, movies and time to enjoy friends and family during their visits in December.

I am a big fan of holidays in general. I love that they are "special", that there is usually no work (except for my hubby who is a cop), no school and something fun planned with the family. Picnics for the summer holidays and big family dinners for the fall and winter ones. I just love them all. My favorite, if I had to pick one, would be Christmas. I just love that you can start decorating for Christmas right after Thanksgiving and no one thinks you're *too* strange! And I love making gifts for my family, even if sometimes I worry that they won't like them. :) I love seeing my daughter still using the blanket I made her 4 years ago for her first Christmas. I think it's just the best time of year.

Christmas for me. Its so fun to decorate for and surprise others with the home made gifts to let them know they were thought of. There is a majic about it and if it snows that just makes it extra special

Every bit of it! Starting with the very many family birthdays, and moving on through pumpkins, costumes, too much food, lights and latkes, into the amazing tree, and the reflective, inward/outward energy of New Years!
Thanksgiving used to be the least favorite, but my late husband and my son loved/love it... and my best friend of 35 years has a birthday around then... so I learned to love gratitude, and to celebrate it.
We celebrate with extended 'chosen' family, and we have a vegetarian, people with milk, gluten, egg, and citrus allergies... as well as not being able to eat green beans, red onions, or bell peppers. But we still feast and laugh ourselves silly, and we've been known to push back the table for belly-dance after dinner before jumping into the (crustless, milk-&-egg-free) pie... with whipped cream, squirted from the charger.

I generally love the next one around the corner. I like change and it energises me. I can't wait for that first crisp fall morning. It takes a while to get here in Texas though.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Fall is my favorite time of year. Love the colors, temperatures and wearing sweaters. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday cooking, baking, decorating, eating. Best part is eating a piece of pumpkin pie Friday Morning after Thanksgiving with a cup of coffee.

Everything has it's time.

Even though I love spring & summer and the hot weather, Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. It is not as commercial as some of the other holidays. No one is trying to sell you anything. It's about family and being grateful for the blessings we have received. It brings back so many happy memories for me.

Thanksgiving is my favorite because it is all about fellowship with friends and family. The food is a combination of all of my favorites- especially pie. In West Virginia, there is not a prettier backdrop for Thanksgiving than the Fall foliage.
