Just introducing myself. I live in ontario, but i'm from Kansas. I've been a member for about a year, but didn't know it!
(long story short, I signed up but never got a confirmation email. So it sat..I just assumed that there was a glitch. Finally I called to see what was up. Now I have my password so i'm ready to "cluck"!)
I miss the farm in Kansas, so this site was a welcome find.

Thank you all:)
Quick question...what's the difference between a hen house and a chapter? (can a henhouse also be a chapter?) Also, to apply for a badge, do you have to submit the steps individually (one beginner level at a time) or can you complete them all and then submit it? Thanks for showin' me the ropes!

Hey, Corabelle, Ontario's not so bad! Are you in Hamilton, Ontario? (trying to figure that out from your signature on the side)I'm in a little one-stoplight town called Brechin, on the east side of Lake Simcoe. Welcome, and you know what they say, good things grow in Ontario...!
This forum is a lot of fun, so don't be shy if you have anything to ask, no question is too silly!

haha, Lori, Ontario isn't bad. It just isn't *Kansas* ! AND there's a bylaw about keeping chickens where i live, yet so many surrounding townships can that i'm bitter. (i'm SO a "raise your own" chickens girl that I want to throw a temper tantrum over this...i'm actually taking it to city council!) But ontario IS a rich soiled province, and im greatful for that;)

Hey Corrabelle,
I hear you about the chickens! Isn't that silly, outlawing a few backyard chickens? I had my own flock of laying hens for 4 years, and loved them...had to give them up when I got a job off the farm, though. I still miss them. Yes, go to council and fight this!
I used to live in one of those suburban areas that outlawed clotheslines--first thing I asked for when we moved to the farm, was a long clothesline on pulleys!
What has brought you to Ontario? Maybe someday we'll meet and you can visit the farm here

We would love to visit your farm:) I feel bad because my kids don't get the same kind of farm experiences that I did when I was their age. We did just go back home to visit though, and they thought it was really exciting geting up early to go feed the piggies and count the cattle etc. They had a blast! We first moved here when my dad's job moved here. (He's a pastor) We all came, but then I'd go back and forth to live with my grandparents there on their farm, and come back here for a while etc. I'm married to a canadian though now, and have two little canadians of my own, so i'm stayin' put. I'm just homesick. I think if I move out of the city someday, here in ontario, I'll feel a lot better. I miss the smell of the country, fresh dirt, the humming of cattle, wind, silence.

Hi Corrabelle,
I'm new to the forum as well and I live in Ontario - Stouffville area. I'm just learning about the farm / homesteading life and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I feel like this was my calling since birth! lol Anyway, enjoying the site, I'm excited to browse through it more, learn and meet great people.
