I am looking for natural relief for itchy skin probably caused by yeast. Since yogurt is good for vaginal yeast infections, do you think it would be good to rub yogurt into scalp, hubby's beard, etc. Hate to have him buy Rx full of chemical side effects.

Claudette first of all you really should have a skin scrape to insure that it is in fact yeast. Many times at first glance people will say oh that's a yeast infection and it really is not. A yeast infection usually means the body's balance is off. Eating active yogurt can be as helpful as rubbing it on the affected area. Stay away from cornstarch products. Yeast feed on and flourish on cornstarch. Itchy scalp and beard really does not sound like yeast. Yeast usually occur in the folds of skin, under the breast, under arms, bottoms where little light gets and usually stays moist.

Begin each morning with a song in your heart.

I agree - get it checked first then treat it. Many people think itchy skin is a topical ailment, when in fact, it can signify something systemic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for holistic and natural treatment options - but - I believe one should be very sure of what they're treating - first.

Oh my this happens to me all the time. I use vinegar. I use it in the shower and kinda of splash or use a sponge. Let it sit for a minute or so and barely rinse it off. It stings just a bit depending on how bad the rash is but it does help but really the best thing is yes yogurt. With a yeast problem you can smell it. Smell it! You can also buy acidophilus at walmart or anywhere with vitamins. Acidophilus (spelling maybe off) is what's in yogurt. Take like 6 2-3 times a day for 3 days then 6 tablets once a day for 7 days or until gone. You said something about the hubby, don't know if he'll go for it but vagisil will atleast help the discomfort of it.

If it's not yeastie use the vinegar and then you can bathe in oatmeal. I just but quick oats in a bandana or thin fabric with water then use it like you would soap. you kind of squeeze and scrub a little.
