Has anyone heard of Amish Friendship Bread? One of my daughter's friends gave me a starter along with the recipe. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it or made it. Or if anyone has alternative recipes for it.

Yes it is good but you eventually get tired of it. I have a list of all kinds of variations to try. I will look it up when I get home!

You can freeze the starter.

If you google Amish Friendship bread all sorts of alternate recipes come up. I have made muffins with it alot. AND...one cool thing I have found out after years of getting tired of it after awhile and not knowing how to start it up again...the starter in the bag can be frozen for awhile. A friend told me this one time and it works great. If you get sort of tired of it you can freeze it and take a break from caring for the starter and making bread or muffins each 10 days...I love it. Have some in my freezer right now.

I have it and you can do all kinds of things with it. The starter will also freeze well and then when you are ready to give it away just take it out of the freezer. Wonderful stuff.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

Oh I never would have thought about making pancakes out of it , what did you add to the starter?

How does everyone freeze theirs? In the bags or do you use a container and if so what kind?

Sorry ladies this is all new to me and I am trying to get some ideas on what else I can do with it. Has anyone ever frozen homemade muffins?

well its nice to know about freezing it. I just got started with it about 3 weeks ago and although it is delious, I am about to get tired of having to make it and find people who want it. So if you freeze it do you just start over with it when you thaw it out, like on day 1????

You can also cut down the ingredients that you add. Like cut down to a fourth.

I was thinking of cutting the starter in half and making only one loaf or muffins instead, I sure it works.

Yes..just take it out of the freezer (I freeze it right in the ziploc bag) and start at day one.
