She called awhile ago while I was out in the hot sun picking blueberries. She had just gone to the pulmonary specialist that she'd waited to see for 6 weeks. He said she would not need a lung transplant. And she had improved her lungs 16%. She's up to 40%. She will need to be on oxygen though. Especially at night. Her heart is working overtime to make up for the poor lung capacity. And she also does not have ashma. She has COPD which is something to do with bronchitis I think. Which she always seems to have.

So that is very good news! Thanks for all the prayers.

Kris

Kris,
Oxygen therapy is pretty easy to do these days . . . I used to work for an oxygen and medical supply company. Can't tell you how many patients I set up on oxygen, some just for night time use and some for 24 hr. usage. COPD are initials for "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" . . . kind of an umbrella term for a variety of chronic lung diseases that aren't "cured" but are treated. Sounds like she has good treatment to look forward to.
I'll be praying . .

She said she really like this doctor. She was very nervous going there but he put her at ease real fast. Plus all the good news didn't hurt. He also told her she needs to be mobile. Not really "excercise", which wouldn't be a very good thing for her to get her heart rate going too fast, but to be walking at a normal pace every day with her dog. Things that will keep her moving. It would depend on the weather but she would be so out of breath just walking into a store.

I did forget to say she has smoked for years. It has been the hardest thing in her life to stop. She has worn the patch for about 13 years trying to stop. She has never been a huge smoker, but did smoke. Anyway, with that last doctor visit and the scare of her life, she hadn't smoked AT ALL! So I hope this is what it will take to get her to stop. And the fact that her lung function has improved so much.

Thank you all for the prayers. Her name is Heidi.

Kris

Prayers sent. I am so glad her lungs are improving. My 80 year old aunt quit smoking 40 years ago when she went to the hospital because she could not breathe well. Her doctor told her he didn't care if she lived or died as it made no difference in his life but if she wanted to live she had to quit smoking right then & there. She smoked unfiltered cigarettes about 2 packs a day if not more, but she said when the doctor told her that she knew she had to quit. I believe if my aunt could stop your sister will also be able to give it up forever.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.
