I did not cut all of my garlic scapes and the flower bulb has turned into what looks just like a head of garlic, cloves and all. Now when I google this I find nothing about it. It seems most sights say you can not plant garlic from seed only cloves. And I can not find anything about this little head of garlic on top of the plant. So all you garlic growers, what is it and what can I do with it? Can I plant it or eat it? I know I should have cut the scape to get a bigger head but I was curious what would happen so I let a few go.
Hello Ladies, I'm planning on planting garlic this summer for the first time. Does anyone have any good tried and true information about how to do this? I need all the help I can get.
I'm new to garlic too...planted last fall...I can see it from my window coming up! Little green stems...so exciting. I had read where garlic grows differently in different climates. I'm zone 5 and here I don't get the little thingys on top, only underground growth, so I read. Please share when you find out, these are good things to know and learn about. I'm wondering if I'll be able to make one of those garlic braids with mine this year...I'll be looking that up to learn about soon.
Have fun and I'll watch for more info from you on this posting...Janie
