I am new. I'm from Mississippi. We live on my grandparent's farm which the houseplace we believe was established in the late 1800's. It originally had a second story smokehouse, potato house, bean house, blacksmithing, etc. Locals say it was a booming place at one time. Right now we are remodeling and adding on to the farmhouse (which was a dogtrot that is enclosed now) at what seems like a snail's pace. We have named this place "Merry Heart Farm". My grandmother's favorite Bible verse was "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine". She lived it too as I never remember her complaining even though she had a husband in a wheelchair for a number of year. I am excited to be here!

Have a great day!

Janet, welcome from Ga. I would love to see pictures of your house. It sounds really nice. I love old houses. And it does take forever to get them the way you want them. But worth it.

Janet - so glad to have you here. How cool to be living on land that has been in your family that long. I hope you enjoy the forum.

Thanks everyone. I am happy to be a part of this.
Amy, actually the people that had built the house had made their 45th crop before my grandparents bought it. They added the second story later. My family has had it for about 90 years. They bought this place and paid for it the next year with their potato crop. I think that is neat.
Kristin, it does take a long time. When we moved in in 1990, there wasn't even electricity on the top floor. It has been a lot of things done that aren't that noticable but do take time.
I am looking forward to meeting people and learning new things!

Have a great day!

Hello fellow Mississippian! Well, I actually live on a state park in Arkansas but was born and raised in Mississippi. I am a 9th generation Meridianite and graduated from USM in Hattiesburg. I hope to see pictures of your place soon, what a wonderful legacy of love!

Another Minnesota welcome! It sound like you have a real adventure going. I love the name Merry Heart Farm and naming the place for Grandma's favorite verse is delightful!

Mama, Stephanie lives near Texarkana where we lived at one time. The state park website looks so unique. We may have to plan a trip one of these days.
