Hi ladies... I'm new here... I'm brand new to any kind of a chat room forum, and feel a little like a fish out of water. I received an invitation to Mary Jane's farm magazine a couple of days ago and was so impressed that I immediately sent for my sample magazine and have every intention of subscribing and I joined here. I live on the prairies of Iowa with my husband of 33 years. We have 2 grown daughters ages 24 & 30 who also have a little farm girl in them. We farm 540 acres of corn & soybeans and also have pigs and a big dog named Hunter. I'm looking forward to getting to know you :)

Welcome! I'm in the Hudson Valley in NY (northwest of NYC) on just one acre, but surrounded by our neighbors' 20 plus acres of woods. We have chickens and honeybees, dogs and cats and a bunny, and very humble gardens compared to yours! You will love the magazine, website, forums, swaps, Mary Jane's Cluck (online newsletter--one of my favorites)--all of it. MJF is a way of life, and the best part is meeting Farmgirls from all over the country. What do you like to do? Maybe we can suggest some of the forums and topics we like.

Cindy Goyner, I noticed your name and location. I just sent mail art to you, but I'm sure I addressed it to Petersburg, Maryland! If you don't get it, let me know. Dianne

Hi and welcome! I grew up summers on a farm near Milton and Cantril on Hwy 2. We had corn, beans and hogs too. Now I live in the city of Minneapolis, MN and wish I could be back on the farm. Our neighbors have chickens. It makes me feel right at home even though the highway noise is loud. Where are you from in Iowa? Bonnie

Thanks for the hearty welcome! Our family moved to Iowa 11 years ago next month from northeast Ohio (Wooster in Wayne County)... we live near Fort Dodge, Iowa. Textilelover asked what I like to do. I love baking bread. Something I started when our girls were little, and am happy that my girls also know how to make their own bread. I am also a seamstress and right now am making a quilt-lined insulated trench coat for my youngest daughter, and my oldest has requested a wool coat which I will start the end of August. Maybe someday I will get around to those skirts I would like for myself. I also enjoy gardening, however, with 15" of rain in June our garden looks very sad. We planted some tomatoes late, but I think they'll make it. And I love pouring over gardening books, dreaming of how I would love for the yard/garden to look someday...
