Please keep my BIG girl in your prayers. "Windy" is a 10y/o Belgian that I have had the pleasure of comforting for the past 2 1/2 yrs. The person that I had to take her from neglected her to the point where she could not even stand by the time I went to pick her up. After only 1 week of hand feeding her so her feet (all 4) could soak in buckets she was walking... dang near running all over the place. She has taken a turn for the worse and there are not may options left. I KNOW I have given her a great life since she has been here but it is still hard to be a decision maker. Please if anyone has any ideas on how to keep my gentle giant more comfortable or help ease momma in this trial all ideas are welcome.
UPDATE:9/9/10 Well we have done all we can, I am writing this with a heavy heart. Later today I have an appointment for the vet to come out for Windy. This past weekend when I was home and able to keep a better eye on her I really noticed how much pain she is in. All she wanted to do is lay down. Laying down all day is for old porch dogs not 2,000 lb horses. I am sad it is the end, I am mad at the person who allowed this mess to start, I am disappointed that there isn't more we can do and that there are IDIOTS out there that don't care about animals as much as the rest of us, I am relieved for the fact that she won't be in so much pain anymore. This is always so hard but I know it is what is best for her. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Hats off to you Danielle for rescueing her. It is the hardest decision us animal lovers have...when to finally ease their pain forever. You will know when the right time is. We have a vet that actually will come to your home and lay them to rest in your loving arms. My dear departed Mr. Bean lived to 15 and was getting close to that time. He just went to sleep one night and did not wake up. I was lucky that I did not have to make the final decision for him.

Alee, unfortunately it is not arthritis. She had foundered when the other guy had her... he said his vet told him it was white line (a bacteria). Well her coffin bone had already rotated when I got her first radiograph. Had a second one done about 6 mths ago and it was even worse. She has an impressive about of sole left but is just in so much pain. The problem now is that I found a open area at her coronary band and we do not know if it was a abscess or if her hoof is sloughing. I am wait to hear back from her and my farrier.

I am so very sorry for you, and very happy that you gave her a good as can be 2 1/2 yrs. If the coffin bone has rotated completly, it may have punched thru...I know you will make the right decisian, and not let her be misrable anylonger that you have to...

The vet came out with my farrier on Wednesday. She didn't want to do another radiograph yet. We trimmed her back as much as possible. There were several cavities/pockets where there were old abcesses and 1 stinky new one. She is a little sore now but she is hanging in there. Thanks EVERYONE!

I am so sorry to see this, Danielle. But from what I have read, it is for the best. Poor girl. She has had a hard few months. I will be thinking of you today and sending you hugs.
Hugs, Kris

Sorry Danielle she had so many good years left if she would have been taken care of. It is a shame. We have to think, there are people in the same boat as your poor horse. Lilly Sorry for your sadness and pain.
