Has anyone made a granny square quilt? Are they easy to make? I would love to make one, but I want it to look "authentic", like the really old ones look. Anyone have suggestions on where to go to get a good antique looking pattern? Also, I like the look of the ones made with the smaller squares, would those be any harder to make than the larger ones? I have knitted a lot, but never crocheted, should I start with an easier project?

Thanks for any help/advice!

Keep in mind the smaller your grannys are, the more edges there are to sew together. Grannys are pretty easy to make, and once you have a few basic stitches, you'll be flying. Personally, I find them tedious to make. I once started a granny square afghan, but got sooo bored with it, that I stuffed it away.

The granny squares are easy to crochet, it's just the joining that's a pain. I made one granny square once that I just kept going and going on until it was a doll blanket, just one big square. Good luck on your quilt.
