Hello ladies,
I am not sure if this is the right place for this, but know that all of yall have lots of wonderful ideas and help. I was wondering what you use for skincare products. I don't have time to make my own but I have simply been appalled at the ingredients that are used. I did not know how toxic some of them were so I am looking to make a change. I know some of you use organic products. My skin is starting to show fine lines...that is what happens when you get to be 44 . It gets dry and is sensitive. I want my skin to look healthy and radiant and not terribly old...hahahah I need a simple routine Any help you could suggest to this farmgirl would be appreciated.

thanks so much
Tammy

I use the COQ10 line from Avalon Organics and I love it - I am just 40 and starting to get fine lines, and I really feel like it helps with that. For regular lotion I use the Shea Butter hand cream from L'Occitane, which is made in France - EU standards for cosmetics, particularly organics, are much stricter than here and the L'Occitane stuff is fabulous.
Both are a little pricy but since I only buy about once a year, maybe twice and don't spend a lot of money on cosmetics I think it's worth it.

For a quick and simple cleanser mix 1 cup of yogurt with 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil & 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Take a handful and smooth over your face in gentle upwards circles for a minute. Rinse with warm water. Store in the refrigerator, good for a week.

Tammy....I have been making my own soap, skin balm, butters and lip balm for almost 5-years- using only pure vegetable oils including rice bran oil and virgin olive oil. Purity that's the "ticket!"

I try to stay away from any products that use preservatives, artificial dyes etc. My mantra has always been less is more including the ingredients you find in soap. Have you ever seen how they make over the counter commercially produced soap? SCARY-

I have really good skin for my age-I attribute a part of it to genes and using a good bar of soap with moisturizer; I use my own whipped shea butter, and I drink a lot of water because you really need hydration-

Tammy,

I just found a wonderful product by Weleda. I am 46 (ouch!) and was really starting to notice some lines around my eyes. I started using Weleda Almond Intensive Cream and it works so good! I found it here:

http://www.vitacost.com/Weleda-Almond-Intensive-Facial-Cream

I read the reviews before purchasing and was hoping that it would be a product to make my skin feel nicer. I was amazed after 2 days using it that my skin became smooth. I can hardly see the lines aroung my eyes now and it has only been a week.

I have been using Burts Bees Radiance line and the anti-aging serum and really like it. In the past ten years, I have used it all...from expensive creams at the mall to Olay. Burts Bees is reasonable and doesn't have the scary stuff in it. I am in my late 30s with very sensitive and extremely dry skin and this has normalized it.

I saw the Burt's Bee Radiance line today at Target...was with hubby who was in hurry..so didn't get to check it out but will next time out. I am like you Nicole, have used the expensive creams and am now using Olay after I tried AVON and it burned my skin whenever I put it on...so my skin has never seemed to recover from that and the Olay makes my skin feel like rubber. The hardest part for me is living in a rural area leaves my choices limited but can always check online. Thanks for telling me about Burt's Bee

Melody, I'd like a few recipes myself, if you don't mind. I am currently making the ACV and plantain cleanser. I have about 4 more days’ b/f it is ready to try.

I have been washing my face with olive oil and castor oil. Very simple, 50/50 mix. You apply to dry skin with dry hands and rub in. Then I put a warm washcloth on my face to steam the pores and wipe the oil off. It is wonderful. I didn't think plain oil could clean your face but it does, doesn't clog pores, and you do not need a moisturizer because you are not stripping your face and the oil help with dry spots.

Tammy, What I like too, is that you can get Burts Bees more places like Target, and online. I really like their serum under their nightcream at night. It lasts a long time, too.

Ladies, I'm curious as to how you all remove eye-makeup? Can these home made products be used for that also?

Are you talking about eye serum Nicole? I thought the same thing about being able to find Burt's Bee and Wedela to name a few at our Target too.

Olive oil is good for removing eye makeup. I put a little on a cotton ball and rub around my eyes (with them closed) and rinse off. It works every time. It also works helps wrinkles in the eyes area too. :)
