My DH and I would like to ask for prayers. He has been without work since Dec and his unemployment will end next week. He's put app's in every week with no response. He turns 61 this week. And we really feel that it's his age. If there is no unemployment extension past this week I really don't know what we will do. With summer, all the extra work jobs are taken by the teenagers. So it's not like he can just go to McDonalds. He'd be grateful for a job there if he could get one. He has never been with out a job. Also served 22 yrs in the Navy. Everyone thinks that we should be able to survive on his navy retirement. But he has to give his ex 1/2 of that retirement check for the rest of his life and after. After taxes and insurance he only receives $600. That pays the rent. We aren't the type that expects the handouts from the gov. But at this time in our life we just don't know where to turn. When applying for jobs have not worked. We would greatly appreciate your prayers that something comes through this week. If we can only make it through one more year he can retire early. Thank you for all prayer's. Hugs, Brenda

Brenda, I know exactly where you are. My husband (who is 37) was out of work from October 09 till April, 2010 and his employment did run out--we lived off my salary the whole month of April...(using the term "lived" is actually a joke--we existed, barely). He'd sent resume after resume, from restaurant to factory, to hardware store to landscaping companies. Anywhere. He'd do anything. Never a response...hand delivered, craig's list ads, newspaper, yahoo jobs...every avenue. And, when there wasn't an extension granted by congress for unemployment, I just thought, "what is going to happen to us?" We were already so pared down, that it didn't seem possible to do more. Just when I decided I would have to go an get a part time job, in addition to my full time job (never-mind would my 12 month old baby every know me!), he called this place he had previously sent a resume and they hired him on the spot. Noone, apparently, had the courtesy to even take the time to answer his email/resume attachment (as they requested you send the resume via email...).
There is hope--there is. It's not the best job, but it's a job and we're still scraping by, but he feels a whole heck of alot better about himself.
Do you folks have Home Depot's or Lowe's there? The often hire men like your husband--older, but not too old, semi-retired, knowledgeable and dependable. They hire more guys like him than college kids (at least here...).
I just know where you are and I can say it will get better. It will. And I'm thinking of you both!

Father God, I pray for favor in this job search for Brenda's husband. I pray that his applications would stand out from the rest that are received at these employers and that they would call him back. Not only that, but I pray that he would get a job that he can love and not just one to exist by. Father, please work quickly before the unemployment runs out and give Brenda peace as she trusts in Your hands to move. We praise You, Father, because You are a good God and You know our every need and You WILL provide! In Jesus' name I lift these requests to You, AMEN.
Hang in there Brenda. (((HUGS))) Let us know if you guys need anything.

Thank you, Thank you for all your prayer's and encouragement. There was a ad yesterday in our local paper that the nursing home here in town is needing someone to keep the floors buffed. It's a full time job. He's going in today to talk with them. Pray that if this one is where he's suppose to be it will come through. With the cost of gas, this one is only 5 blocks away. Once I recover from this back surgery, I'll be out there hunting. Tom and I was talking that we do thank the Lord that we have no children to be concerned about, ours are now grown. We want to send our prayer's for all of you who have the precious little ones. It would add extra stress in the situation. I know we are all in the Lords hands and he will provide. But the waiting and not knowing is pretty scary at time. It's so heart touching to know that the farmgirls are always there for you. My dear friend Linda(prayingranny) and I was talking yesterday about how our world has changed so much! I feel that the Lord is preparing us and getting us stronger so we can work at getting things back as it should be. God First! Thank you, lots of Hugs, Brenda

Brenda- I hope that the job discussion goes well- in fact I hope he gets hired on immediatly! Another place he might want to see if is in your area is Securitas Security. They usually do security of places like Wal-Mart and businesses. They are supposed to be the the largest security company in the world? and work in several countries. Anyway I know where I work they mostly hire in the over 50 age range.

He went to the nursing home this morning and they had already hired someone yesterday afternoon. We didn't even get the paper in the mail until yesterday afternoon. they said they were sorry because they thought he'd work out better so he left app if something doesn't work out. Then put 6 more apps out and no one was hiring. It's a real downer and nothing else could strip a man of his pride or self worth more than this. I just want to cry for him. But no I have to stay strong. If something does not work out by next week we will be cutting back alot and I'll let you know when the internet goes. I can't justify trying to keep it paid when something else goes without. Now I am crying, because I'm going to miss all of you so much. Just know I love you all and hope I'd be back before long. Thank you for everything that you have done for me and all the prayers.
hugs,Brenda
