Hello fellow farm girls, I am new to this site, which is great, and I see that there are fellow wavers here. I have a problem with my weaving that is really getting to me. After weaving about an inch or so the width is starting to decrease. Regardless of how lose I lay the weft across. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated. I apologize if this post ended up in the wrong forum area.

Oh gosh, I wish I could help. I just started learning to weave and the only thing I found as I was weaving my first project was before I closed the shaft to beat I pulled lightly on the edge to straighten it out some. I'm not sure if you're really supposed to do this but it seemed to work and I didn't get the draw-in you are talking about. I'm sure more experienced weavers have a better solution.

Thanks for your reply. The draw in is real gradual, at first it not so obvious, but as I continue it starts to be noticable. Once I am a couple of inches away from the cloth bar it stops decreasing. But on average I lose about an inch and a half on my width.

Hi Sabine -

Are you leaving enough of a "loop" on the edges when you turn your corners? This is where your "draw in" is probably happening. Also, are you laying your weft on an angle before you beat? This was the way I was taught when I first started to weave. Wish I was closer so I could take a look for you!

I think so, about the loops, I mean and I do put the weft in on an angle. I guess I just "unweave" my 3 inches and try again. Thanks for the help and I will let you know how it goes.
