I put some of my tomato plants in window planters this year to let them grow before transplanting. I didn't want to use straight potting soil so I mixed bags of potting soil about 50/50 with garden soil. When I dug up my garden soil I got some worms so I decided to go ahead and see if the worms liked the window boxes- they do!! The worms I saw last night were nice and fat and I could tell where they had been living because the dirt had that balled up consistency that you see sometimes when there is a lot of worm castings in the soil.

It was great! I am so pleased with my worms and the window planters, and the plants were definitely happy too! They are now in the garden and new baby tomatoes are waiting to be transplanted to their window boxes.

alee that is great. i just love worms. they work for us 365 days a year giving us poop. lol the window boxes sound great.you are so busy and getting things done. i am always amazed at what farm girls can do in a day. today is my day. so for me scooping poop and garden are my joys. glad you have new baby plants after your frost got you. i am just now starting plants. we were just not ready till now. do you have a green house? i need to post about them. i have never really grown too much in them. now i want to try. thought you may have thoughts. happy days sherrye

that is a great experiment alee. We have had so much rain here that my tomato plants desperately need the sunshine. Hopefully we will have sun for a few days

Thanks ladies!

I am glad it worked too! My tomato plants seem to be enjoying being in the ground. I am just waiting for a few more to get bigger so I can plant them in too. I am going to have such a good crop of tomatoes if I can keep Nora and Sky away from them! LOL
