So what is you new crop this year?
I was at the nursery and they had peanuts. Yes, peanuts in Colorado. I remember seeing them before and we do get some serious heat in the midst of summer. They say they grow so I picked up one to try. What the heck. For $3 I'll try anything once and wouldn't it be neat to be able to grow my own peanuts. I won't put it out for a few more weeks as we still have pretty chilly night. So fingers crossed and we shall see what the fall brings.

Because of the Farmers Market I tried several new things this year, the big one was a winter garden! I had never grown peas, lettuce, spinach or radishes before. Here in SE Arizona, those are all winter crops. I was real pleased with the results and NO bugs! LOL!! Let us know how the peanuts work out!

That's so funny Laurie! I found a peanut plant for the first time too, so I bought one. I have it planted in my community garden plot. So far it hasn't grown much, but we will see!

We are trying a lot of new things this year. Mostly thanks to my Farmgirl Angels! We have leeks, chard, sage, rosemary, oregano, savory, okra, garlic, blueberries, and strawberries! I've never grown any of them before, but they're doin alright and we even have a few red strawberries that will ready in a day or two! We are also tryin some new ways to plant to help with the weeds. We planted all our seed in little dixie cups with the bottoms removed. There's no cofusion as to what's weed and what's plants. We decided to mulch with sawdust in the walkways to prevent weeds there, and we added a lot of manure to try to break up our clay soil. Things seem to be going good so far. If everything works good we'll be pretty well weed free with good draining soil in two years.

I started my own tomatoes this year, something I have never done, though I've had a garden for years!
I am also planting strawberry popcorn, sunflowers, and for the second time ever, potatos! I planted them one year when my kids were small, but only some of my kids are potato eaters, so I didn't do it again. Hubby and I love them though, so I am looking forward to it!
Actually my 5 year old grand daughter Gracie is going to help me plant them today, as well as help Grampa and I move the chickens to their big coop!

We planted strawberry popcorn at my boyfriends. He used to as a kid, but I had never heard of them until a few years ago. I', excited to see them. Good luck with yours.

I'm planting cabbage. I know, that's not something extravagant and most people usually grow it but I never have before. I guess because I could always get it so cheap at the store that I figured planting it would be a waste of space (we only have 480sq ft of garden!) but I'm trying it this year.

Cabbage is only on it's second year in my garden. It's really easy to grow, but I always thought it would be too much to handle. I found a small head type and now grow 3 dozen plants. It grows and keeps well, so it's a staple for us now! You'll enjoy it! We grew strawberry popcorn for a few years when the girls had a hamster. You can micro-pop the ears for the little animals! It's a neat one to harvest, so pretty!
