I have been trying for two weeks now, to get out and pack in somewhere with my horses. Last weekend and now this weekend, too, predicted showers. I've camped in the rain (and snow) and it ain't no fun.
I wanted to go with just the horses and the dogs and try for my expert Disconnect badge. I went on a solo pack trip in the High Cascades (Mt. Thielsen area) in October. That's when I got the snow! It was beautiful and fun but cold and wet. I have a picture of all three of the dogs curled around the campfire!
Plus this weekend Glide is hosting the District Track Meet and it's my son's senior year. Can't miss that. So I thought I'd go tomorrow afternoon and stay till Monday, but they're predicting Thunderstorms (!!) Sunday afternoon. That's no fun up high, either.

Well, I did it. I got to watch my son WIN the 800 meter run with a 2:02 so he goes to State this weekend. Then I got to watch the 4x400 relay team (he ran first leg) WIN also. It was worth it. I will be going up to Monmouth on Saturday to watch the kids from Glide compete at State. People think my son should win the 800. How exciting for his last year. His sister is in college at OSU in Corvallis and will watch him also.
So--all this to say that by 6 pm Saturday I was loaded up and headed up the river! Yay. I got into my camp spot at 8:30 and barely got all set up before true dark. It was great to go to sleep lulled by the cascading of the spring over the canyon wall. Lots of birds woke me early in the morning.
I spent the day reading, carrying water for the horses, finding firewood, watching the horses graze, sitting, taking a nap, finding more firewood, carrying more water for the horses, etc. Actually they didn't drink as much as I thought they might. Probably because they were able to graze on green grass and the beet pulp was moistened.
The sky threatened rain and I heard some thunder. Found out when I got home that there were several lightning strikes close to our house. Ron said the house shook! I missed it all. Yay. My friend said that she was praying that I wouldn't get wet. It worked!
I heard two trees fall in the woods. And a swarm of bees came through. They sounded so loud, it seemed like they must be right next to me. They soon moved on.
Got back home Monday at 12:30 pm all refreshed. I'm so glad I went.
I did take pictures but can't find the USB cord that attaches to the computer.
