A friend has a Cranbrook floor loom he has offered to sell me. His wife was a weaver but died quite a few years ago. It has just sat there unused and I'd love to have it and learn.
Where do I start? Any basic books you would recommend? I'd like to know basic vocab and concepts so I can get the most out of a class.
There are classes available from the MN Weavers Guild this summer, long weekends or a week of days. Would that be a good start?
Does anyone know of other classes in southern or central MN? Or is there a farmgirl weaver who would barter for lessons?

Susan,
Holy Loom gods, a Cranbrook! How big?
Where are you located?
I'm about 2 hours from the twin cities to the East.
Maybe we could work something out. (One Newbie to another)
I have a folding loom and a table top we could start you on, I'm a little intimidated on know how to warp and use a Cranbrook.
I think you would love it after just figuring it out how it works.

Karen,
Glad to hear from you! The loom is about 50 inches, weaves up to 48". Our friend lives out in upstate NY but his son is renting a truck to bring the loom and some other stuff, I believe about mid June.
We are located about 40 miles south of the Twin Cities, just a short distance off 35W. Right now I'm in the middle of so much stuff, DD is getting married June 12, I'm having a bridal shower here this coming weekend( and the house is not what you'd call "company ready"), I took on a temporary job and our garden is in major need of attention. Whew!

Susan,
When your ready, let me know and we'll plan something.
I can usually take a day off from work with at least 2 days notice.
My hubby drives to Bloomington, MN 4 times a week for school this trimester.
I could take my Jeep so there's room for my looms and drop him off and meet up.
Or something else we could do is meet at a park on a nice day and weave there. (talk about decadent, weaving outside!)

Be prepared, a Cranbrook is going to eat up a lot of space and look huge because of the upper part of the loom, maybe it will need a room of it's own!
check out the dim's...

Just get your plans taken care of and rest a little from the wedding and we'll get together.
