i have been reuseing tin and alumimun cans for container planting
like large cans of peeled tomatoes and olive oil
plant tomatoes pepper and herbs and give as gifts or put on the porch
i put two holes in the bottom for drainage. they look nice especially with the tomatoe labels on, and can be recycled or reused at the end of the season.

Thanks for the ideas, Deborah! I like the idea of the tin cans as planters on the front porch. I saw a really cute tin can lantern/outdoor chandelier in MaryJanes book! Its so cute, I cannot wait to make one!

my grandparents used to do that, but I can't remember where the cans came from. It always looked nice

Forget buns of steel, I'd rather have buns of cinnamon!

the electric can opener does it, so aside from punching two holes in the bottom for drainage thats it
but it makes a fun gift ..like canned peas for starter peas etc.
i also use the tuna cans for votive candle holders outside..you can decorate the cans or paint them..
yogurt containers work well too and the tops become the bottom dish for no drip drainage.
i love to find uses for things ..
like the large plastic white vinegar bottles make great scoops for potting soil & feed .. you can glue the top on.

This is so GREAT! I repurpose mine this time of year and put flowers in them with some water. I put them on our road-side stand with a sign that usually something like; "Flower Parade! Please take a bunch!" I love giving them away that way...I haven't done this in a few years. I'm thrilled to be doing it again soon! ~julia

One other use my sister just reminder me
she punches two holes on opposite sides of a large can
puts a long cord thru )
the cord has to be long enough to hang the can around your neck and fall to your waist)
and ties off and uses it to go out and pick berries..she has a few blueberry bushes..
i usually eat them so not to many left after i'm done ..LOL
