Hi everyone, I am in the process of making a Memory Garden. Most of the flowers will be in the sun but I want to use a bench and incorporate Morning Glory's or my Clematis. I don't have a trellis but I want them to grow overhead of the bench, does anyone have some simple solution for a not so handy with a hammer farmgirl. Hubby stays so busy I hate to ask him to do odd jobs when I can possibly do it myself. Also any neat ideas you have for a Memory Garden would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

You could use an old wooden ladder as a sort of trellis......

That's a great idea. I also have an old swing set frame that I'd forgot I had. We used to keep an old proch swing on it, I wonder how I could rig the top of it up so the Morning Glories can grow across the top of it. I think the frame is too big around for it to vine around it. Thanks!

Hi Mikki! Morning glories will grow around a swing set pipe. But you could start them in a hanging basket--hanging high from the swing set and then start the twining and they will take it from there.

Same with the Clematis. they would look great in a short hanging basket and then spilling down the legs of the swing set. MB

you could also attach some chicken wire to it, just about 6-8 inches to allow them to have more to cling to.

When you say memory garden, I remember the garden we used to have at our old house - I actually had people from the family or special friends come and choose a perennial plant to put in my "memory" garden, so that when I was in the garden I could see that special plant they chose and remember them. It was fun! Everyone had their own special plant they had chose for a certain reason...it was a neat project. :)

What a cool idea Amy. I think plant markers like this http://childmadetutorials.blogspot.com/2010/04/metal-plant-tags.html would be fun with the name of the plant and the persons name on it.
