Yikes! I planned on planting seed in the garden today, but I can't go out there without gnats flying into my eyes and nose and all over me, really. What the heck? What should I do about these little buggers? I need one of those bee suits, really.

We've had those gnats here in Illinois for several weeks. They only live for three or four weeks and then it gets too warm for the eggs to survive (they lay their eggs in water.) Once the water temp gets above 70 degree F they can't survive. They are pests. They can also make some people sick from their bites or it someone accidently inhales one or swallows one. It's been recommended to wear a hat with mosquito netting that covers your face if they're too bad. some livestock around here have died from either breathing in these gnats or getting bit by them. they really are pests. I hope it gets warm in Michigan soon cause that'll take care of them. I made a spray with water and ten drops of eucalyptus oil and I spray my baseball cap with that and it seems to help. they don't like eucalyptus. I feel for ya, sister.

I found that I had some natural bug repellant with lemon and eucalyptus oil here at the house. That worked! Thanks Cindy!

We definitely have gnats down here. I used to go to school where the city mascot was the GNAT! Anyhow, I was told to wear a dryer sheet in my helmet (horse helmet when riding) to avoid gnats. Perhaps rub it on clothing, maybe it will help.

I will have to get some dryer sheets and give it a try. Thanks Kerry! Hey....I haven't seen or heard from you in a while. Everything OK?

My Mom and I use the dryer sheets and they work quite well. Gnats are thick here in Tennessee! I put them in my back pocket or shirt pocket and it helps.
