I am sooo excited! About 4 years ago an old friend gave us his wood cookstove.He remembers his mom cooking on it when he was a kid.He's in his 70's now. Anyway,it is a beauty,with 6 burners,the kind you can take off the solid tops and put on these beautifully ornate cut-outs to let the flame up through.(to heat pots faster).It has a copper water reservoir and a warming shelf that has drawers.
Well,I've been looking for this business for a couple of years that I heard about in Calgary,Alberta but couldn't find it.So I gave up.Then I bought a magazine in Whitehorse,YukonTerritory and in the back was an ad from this place! I called them,left a message but they never called back. So yesterday I got a call from them.It's a husband\wife team and they sound so nice.It will cost about 5 thousand but he said it will be worth $10-15 thous. when its done. They will send an album too of the before,during, and after.It takes about 100 hours per stove. I can't wait to show it to my elderly friend when it's done!
I have a web site addr.,if anyone is interested,but they said it's not quite up and running yet.It should make for a fun road trip!

That is so cool that you are having it redone. Those old stoves are so nice. What will you do with it once it is done?

| Weeellll,THAT is the big question.It is LARGE.,and HEAVY! Soooo,I will try to talk my brother into storing it in his cabin.THEN, when I get some more mulla$$,I hope to take it to our paradise location,Glacier Bay.THAT is an ordeal involving putting on the ferry,then transferring to a landing craft,and then to the cabin! WOW.Don't even know if it will fit through the door!!! How is the weather up there?.Wish we could have a chapter,will have to do a cyber one!? |

I was just thinking the same thing about an alaska chapter. It will be a huge deal when you get it finished about think how nice it will be when you get it in the house in glacier bay. Every time you look at it you will smile to know how hard you worked to get it there and you will love it. I work for the ferry so when you get ready to move it you will have to give me a call to make your reservations.
