I have been turning my front yard and boulevard strip into a waterwise garden. I just did a post on waterwise flowers. Do you have any favorites?

Sheryye! Wow - I am impressed! You are a super hard worker! Will you be moving to a warmer site? It sounds like you do not have many growing days. Our last frost date is May 15th and we officially go to Sept 15th. Your place must be huge. I have never moved a hellebore. Do they have a taproot? Thanks for the visit to my blog. My garden isn't bigged, but it has reached the point that is all "gardened" It took 18 years to reach this point. Now, when I want something new, many times I have to dig something out. Usually something that was just taking up space or covering and protecting the soil. Gardening is a joy isn't it?

Gloria,

I did this exact same thing when I lived in town. I used: Daylilies, iris, coneflower, Rudbeckia, rock rose, lantana, verbena, Mexican bush sage, lamb's ears, catmint (Walker's Low), amaryllis, skullcap, and actually a vast array of roses, which look superb right now. I used hardy roses such as "The Fairy", "Gourmet Popcorn", "Belinda's Dream" "New Dawn" (on my arbor), and my favorite, "Teasing Georgia", as well as Mr. Lincoln, First Prize, and Iceberg. These are all planted in a small strip of land between the road and sidewalk.

I am in Zone 8.

gloria, it truly is my passion. the dirt. we are having to leave our home of 15 years due to lack of work. it has been a difficult choice. the girls on here truly helped me find the good stuff in the situation. so now it is a new adventure. we are leaving a little under 3 acres. fully landscaped for weddings and events.county shut 18 of us venues down. one person complained it was not farm related, and papa has been off work for 2 yrs. so we are switching gears. i am excited about it now. sad and happy. he left this am for union job in klamath falls. yipee. i am going to have way too many plants to keep. so i will give sell save. if there is a tap root i will let you know when i dig. mine is blooming now. side note.. helebore blooms dry perfect just as they are only smaller if allowed to dry on a shelf. the center is fat for pressing though.the weather here is bad right now. so i am in a nuturing mode. the peace thar overcomes my whole being when a garden bed is set and planted in spring is so fine. the same when i water and see all the plants so happy sharing the beauty God made for man. happy garden days sherrye
