Hi everyone! I've been reading your posts over the last week or so. I just happened upon MaryJanesfarm - oh I think I was searching for my lastest project - aprons. :) I feel like I've found my "cyber soulmates". I can't believe there are all these wonderful women out here who like all these "old-fashioned" things! I'm a stay at home mom of 2 girls. We live on 2 1/2 acres here in northern Colorado. I bake [organic] whole wheat bread every week, love gardening, herbs, sewing, canning, and much more! We have 3 alpacas(I have tried felting and am going to learn how to spin!), 11 chickens, 2 birds, 2 cats and 1 corgi (dog :) )I make and sell primitive cloth dolls, I have afternoon tea with my girls every week, and we always enter baked goods and sewing projects in the county fair every summer.
I can't believe how many of you have shared things here that I like too. Things that I thought I was the only one who liked. For example, Tasha Tudor!! (I love everything about her and have all her books), old issues of magazines (I have all my issues of Victoria, Country Home and Country Living, Herb Companion, Early American Life/Homes, Martha Stewart - and more). They're my very own library and inspiration for everything I love to do! And movies - I was reading how many of you loved old movies like the Quiet Man- and Funny Farm! I thought I was the only one in the world who loved that movie. ha.
Most of all, it seems as though this is a place where women actually support each other in all these things. My extended family have always thought I was a novelty and my friends, well, I haven't met anyone since moving out here who understands any of these things I do. They say things like "you're so funny", or "why don't you just buy jam at the store". I'm so looking forward to reading more from all of you - and was thinking of starting a farm girl chapter out here - except I'd probably be the only one!
Happy being a farmgirl

Joanne -- welcome!! This place has the most amazing women. You're going to love it here! Your life sound so wonderful. I bet you'd be surprised how many gals might be interested in joining if you started a chapter. My family back home doesn't "get" me either. They think I've gone crazy! But when I found this place and realized that being a farmgirl was truly the person I am, I have been so content. I spent years doing what I thought I should be doing and not what I truly loved. Glad you're here!

Welcome Joanne, to the place where we totally relate to easch other!! I think that you will love it here. My brother lives in Colorado- he's been there about 2 years now and loves it. He's coming here to visit next week for a little R&R and of course- yard sales!!!! It sounds as though you are living a life that you love. What a gift. I am sure we will learn much from you.

Welcome Joanne!! I'm so excited to have you join us!! I'm in Colorado too, just east of Pueblo. Where are you? I'm making dolls too at the moment. We live on a 15 acre organic farm with chickens, ducks, goats, 1 cat, 3 dogs and 2 turtles. Feel free to click on my user name to email me sometime. I look forward to getting to know you. Hugs, Luzy

Thanks for the warm welcome! Luanne I was wondering where Avondale was. It sounds like you have a farmgirl chapter down there. If you don't mind I'll email you to see what your chapter is like. I've been up here in Fort Collins for 10 years now. Time flies! We moved here from the Silicon Valley in Ca. and before that, shhh...I was born and raised a city girl in San Francisco. My Mom was a native Coloradoan though - she was a true farm girl from Crested Butte so I had it in my blood!
p.s. I have cousins in Pueblo. :) pps. Kay, content is the right word when you're living authentically and doing what you were meant to do. ppps. Karin - ooh I so want to visit your part of the country! |
