I have these very pretty but very thorny trees that are blooming now. I would love to know the name of them. They are really big trees. Every branch had thorns at least a 1/2 inch long all along the limb. The leaves are small round and all the way up the stem. It's blooming right now and the blooms look like a white wisteria bloom. They smell really good sort of like the green weed bush that grows all over the place. Very pretty tree but very thorny. I guess it's a weed tree. They are all over the place. The goats have killed all the smaller ones but the big ones are going strong.
Does anyone else have a tree like this and knows the name of it? I wish I could post pictures. Sorry.
Kris, They might be locust trees, honey locust or black locust. Very beautiful but those thorns are mean. I think the flowers are edible and the wood is very hard and make good fence posts since it is very slow to rot.
I'll second what Kathy says. It does sound like a Locust. Huge tree but the scent of the flowers is tremendous. Not necessary a weed tree but does send up suckers.
Yes, I think ya'll are right. I remember now. They do put off lots of little trees all over. My goats love them. But the big ones have survived them. They really are pretty. I didn't know the flowers were edible though. Now I'm thinking locust jelly!
