Oh No! Doug had big car trouble on the way home from work. We live 10 miles from work and we drive on the interstate. Well, Doug was coming down he on ramp and the car chugged out and died.

He had to walk a couple of miles and climb under 2 electric fences to get to a house where he could use a phone to call me to pick him up.

We ended up having to call a tow truck and they are dropping it off at a repair place tonight. I have no idea how we are going to afford this. Our money is so tied up right now. My stomach is sick at this new expense.

Luckily we have my dad's Jimmy to use so at least we can get to work. I just hope it turns out to be something simple and cheap (like the battery).

I'm sorry you're having car trouble--thankfully your DH is ok (I'm not sure I'd be if I had to climb over two electric fences!). Hopefully it's something minor and can easily be fixed. I'll be praying that it doesn't make too much of a dent in your pocketbook. And at least you have your dad's Jimmy for necessary trips. Hang in there and keep us posted!

Dear Alee, I am so sorry for your troubles. When you get the estimate from the repair shop, please e-mail me and let me know what they say. I have been in the automotive service industry for over 15 years and maybe I could give you an opinion. Just to let you know, it probably isn't the battery. For an engine to die while driving it most likely lost fuel, spark or timing belt. Let me know what the shop says.

Thanks ladies! This just makes me sick, you know? Sometimes I think the universe doesn't want us to ever get ahead. We have been living paycheck to paycheck for so long I am just exhausted from it all.

I hear you on the paycheck to paycheck thing Alee - it seems like if it isn't one thing it's another. I hope you can get things fixed, quickly, and cheap!! I'll be thinking about you:)

Thanks ladies. They are going to check the car over this morning. Infact in about half an hour. So I should know something in the next couple of hours. Ugh. I hate waiting! LOL

Good luck, Alee! I just had to get a car repair done this week too. I hate it when the checking account goes from "comfortable" to "broke" in one transaction.

If I was going to guess, I'd be thinking about the fuel pump or the alternator. I've had both of those die on me. But, on the bright side, they're both totally fixable. It's funny, the things that make a car stop running suddenly aren't usually the things that kill the car, dramatic as they seem.

Okay so big "I TOLD YOU SO" going out to my husband. I told him we should check the fuses on the car before calling the tow truck but NOOO he wouldn't listen to me. Guess what it was.... a blown fuse!!!

So between the tow and the diagnostic, we are looking at about $275 so not as bad as it could have been but it is still going to be super tight for our budget :( EEK!

Thank goodness for living in a friendly area!! I was able to get them to take $60 off the towing bill. I am very happy that even though it will be painfully tight this next month- we will be able to finagle it. I called a debt company that I had scheduled a LARGE payment to and cut it into two payments- one in May and one in June. That will help tons. So overall I can breath again and I am so relieved that it wasn't worse!!

Alee, I am glad it wasn't worse, but, when you have a tight budget ( and who doesn't these days!) that can be make for a very rough month. Men never think we know much do they lol! I hope things straigten out for you and you have many easy months ahead.

Hugs to you, MJ

Oh Alee,

I'm sorry that you have this bill now. I am thankful that it wasn't worse though. Last year we had to have a new fuel pump put in and it came to about $1000.00 that hurt us so bad. That's great that a towing discount was taken off your bill, what a blessing! I will be praying for the Lord's provision for you and Doug.

I just hate anything automotive. I had my car inspected and it cost me $300+. It was a tie rod. I am glad it wasn't worse..
