I planted 6 tomato seedlings to see if the others are ready for the garden or not. They are doing great- no wilting or anything, but last night the wind kicked up to about 25 miles an hour and they were getting quite a thrashing. I didn't see any damage but still...
So I put some canning jars over the seedlings for the night. This morning some had fallen off the mound, but most were still there. All the seedlings seem happy and healthy this morning. Here's hoping they start growing thicker stems soon!!
Alee, I hope they make it. I think they can take quite a lot of abuse. Most of the ones we planted last week are still there but some look burnt. Some of the smaller ones have just disappeared. So I will have to replace them.
Good luck with yours. Are these some you started from seeds?
You can cut the bottom off milk jugs or juice boxes and push them into the ground to block the wind off little plants. Cut the top off as well if you don't want to have to remove them everyday.

Angela- that is brilliant about the juice boxes. We don't do carton juice but I do make froze juice. That would be about the right size.
Kristin- Yes these are some of my seedlings. They are doing great so far today. I am sure by next week they will already be showing signs of being stronger. They are surviving so that is great. I might plant more into the ground this week.
