So I was thinking today about setting up a pest barricade around my plants. I was thinking that some ground up egg shells placed in a thickish circle around each seedling would keep soft bodied pests away- like snails. I know you can put beer in a pan to drown snails- but anyone ever tried the egg shells before?
Hey Alee, I crush up my egg shells really fine and add to my compost.. As for the snails I have used dried coffee grounds and wheat germ as well as Bran...when the invading snails slither across them the stuff sticks to their body and dries them out...you can also use salt....fortunately up here I don't seem to have as much problems with the little buggers.....and they are fair game for the birds! lol! Let us know about how the shells work.
