I work at an organic grocery store and we get lots (lots and lots and lots) of boxes on a daily basis. My cheese comes packed in a standard size "repack" box which is heavy-duty and great for shipping. For several years we have saved them for our local fair-trade clothing import company to use - it recycles them, and they don't have the expense of buying boxes.
Well, I was heading out the door the other day with some odd-sized bread boxes and ran into the owner of the fair-trade goods co. I was going to use them to smother weeds in a part of the garden I'm not cultivating this year, we started talking and it comes up that they get tons of jute sacks that they don't use either.
So now I am trading boxes that would just get recycled, for jute sacks for my ground cover that would have just gotten thrown away - how cool is that? Plus the jute will compost over time.
I love this!!
