We have had the most bitter cold week...way below 0 at night and not over 10 or 15 degrees in the warmest part of the day. We had three days straight of snow (6" to 8" here in town) and it is all mostly still on the ground. I love winter..but wasn't really expecting this and had a few things left undone out back. My garden hose that I use for watering the animals (I attach it through the back door to the laundry room sink) is under all that snow ) so I am trudging out making lots of trips with buckets of warm water for them several times each day until it warms up a little. We had an unusually rainy fall and a cooler summer and a later spring than normal too..make me wonder what to expect next year!!! Have any of you had unusual weather all year? I am using my time as wisely as I can...getting alot of sewing (mostly for Christmas) done in my icebox laundry room/sewing room. I have my little space heater aimed at my feet and sew as long as I can handle it and then do hand sewing in the living room by the woodstove until I thaw out and then do more. I do like cold better than extra hot weather though.

Hi Jenny,
I put a heating pad on the floor under my feet when I am in my sewing room or in my office. I think cold feet are the hardest to warm up.

Goodness, Jenny! I was bemoaning our cold weather here at not being much above 30, with low clouds or fog, so it's very moisture laden and chills me to the bone; but your weather is much colder, so I'll stop my whining now. Can you drag your hose into your utility room to thaw it out? We used to water the cows and horses from a hose at the house too, and the guys would always have to drain it out after each use to prevent it from freezing up. About 100' of hose - a royal Pain, but it beats carrying water, doesn't it?

Eileen, good idea to put the heating pad under my feet while sewing. My designated sewing room is downstairs, adjacent to my bedroom, which is warm and toasty, but the sewing room hasn't been upgraded yet. No heat or extra insulation! Yikes... so my designated sewing area is upstairs, but isn't very toasty warm either, so I really need to get inspired to sew...I have french doors there too and since the cold has been penetrating, I've kept the drapes pulled, which just doesn't do much for the light situation either. Maybe this weekend I'll just pretend it's warmer and go for it!!!

Stay warm Jenny! I'll be thinking about you! Eileen, I'll be thinking good surgery and recovery thoughts for you too.

We've had unusual weather this year as well. Very much like you've had, Jenny. Cool summer, and a wet fall. Some things in my garden didn't do well at all while other things did great. We've had snow for about a week now. Not a lot, just enough to cover everything. Yesterday was super cold! I woke up to -26C (-8F)! This morning it is only -3C (26F) and suppose to go up to melting later and possibly rain. Very strange!

We too have had a strange year and I'm on the opposite side of the country! Today was the first time I had to actually use the ice scraper on my car windows and usually have been for about a month.
The last few days we have gotten an onslought of wind gusts30-60mph and that is just not normal here unless there is a huricane somewhere nearby. The air has gotten decidedly colder and we went from 50-60o
to 30-40o within a day of the winds. We usually are bundled up and it is COLD now so we were just taking the long mild fall for granted. It's been a wet year and the fall colors were just great. When I was
little it would always snow on my birthday so I thought it was a special gift from above! We had about 10 years where it hardly snowed at all and the last 10 have been anyone's guess; sometimes tons and sometimes just a dusting. My husband lived in Colorado and didn't want to stay because of the long winters. I on the other hand feel like if you are cold you can always get warm but if you're hot it's much harder to cool down!(I'm also a fair skinned red head so that doesn't help!)Looking forward to our first snow whenever it comes!
Stay warm girls, and happy sewing!

with a happy heart
