A life-long favorite I'd like to share ~ Robert Service ~ you may recognize his work when you read it...google to see examples of his stories in poetry.

This was my dad's favorite. I remember him reading it aloud to me as a kid. Fond memories. Thanks for the reminder!

I remember going to a reading of his work when I was a kid, I think it was at the Alaska/Yukon museum in Seattle. I love his stuff

I did some of the poetry of Robert Service with my middle school students and they loved him. We did The Cremation of Sam McGee, The Shooting of Dan McGrew, Ballad of the Yukon, and the all time favorite, The Ballad of the Ice Worm Cocktail. He is really a hoot! We also did a poem that was not written by him but everyone assumed it was since it mimicked his style and it gave the boys a chance to discuss what it was that reminded them of Robert Service. It is called the Face on the Bar Room Floor.Sara
