Yep, that's right, after 28 years as a stay at home Mom,I am back in the work force.Home Depot's newest employee in the garden department-starting a week from Monday. Can you believe it? I don't completely yet. It seems so odd to me.

Maybe since I have faced this fear head on- going back to work and changing my life as I've known it- maybe I can face another one and lose some weight.Keep your fingers crossed!

Diane -- good for you!!! I'm so proud of you!! Congratulations! If I worked in a garden department I'd never make it home with a paycheck.

Diane -- Remember you can do anything you set your mind to!

My one piece of advise is to get an EXCELLENT pair of walking shoes, thick soled, with lots of support. You most likely will be working/standing on concrete floors, and this will help support your feet, legs and back as you adjust.

Have fun!!

Good for you! It's not an easy change, but you have taken the biggest step! All good wishes!

Good for you Diane! There's nothing better than doing work you truly enjoy. We'll be thinking of you!
I once took a part time job in a little kitchen/housewares shop and I truly was volunteering, as my paycheque went directly back to the store with everything that i bought! But it didn't bug me one bit, since I was having so much fun.

Thanks for the support girls....

I actually told the Human Resources person they WANT to hire ME, as 9/10's of what I make will go back into Home Depot's coffers...that is certain!

At least I will be supporting my habit....and getting this house fixed up. We bought it new, but after 15 years EVERYTHING starts falling apart.

I won't be on here much chatting away with you gals, but I'll be thinking of you!

Congratulations! Every once in awhile you have to let us know how your new work is coming along! Does this mean you will not be doing your home business anymore? I have read and seen (on the apron) what wonderful sewing you do, so I hope you can keep that up a little too!

Peace

Congrats Diane!! What a fun place to work...I would sadly..be one of the gals with no paycheck if I worked there..but my yard would look great. We have to drvie an hour and 1/2 to the nearest big wonder hardwares stores like that. Probably a good thing..haha
You will do great!! Wear that apron with pride!!

Ellen, queen of the Orange Groves....SO good to see you on here! I owe you a letter.....

No discount at H.D. My luck.

I worked retail for years before I became a home mom. KMart, Sears, you name it. So why am I going back? It must be like labor, you forget just how bad it was....

I like the everyday is like Christmas feeling when you open a box of freight.Don't they say us storekeeper types just never get enough battle scars/stories so we need the public to liven up our small world and be the climax to our berryblue day. At least at home depot you already have mostly the type of customer who wants to do something themselves. I will have to write you my latest story of fitting a bra in a power outage

Gee willihillikers, they want us to check our selves out at HD and still don't have enough to share a discount with the employees... what rascals, how long do you have to wait to be vested?

Are you packing a lunch?

Diane,
This sounds like a great thing to be doing, that would be one job I wouldn't mind getting up for .playing in the flowers and dirt and talking to people about planting and dirt. We were just at our home depot a few days ago, bought a WHOLE bunch of stuff. Will this be a warm weather job only? Good for you, maybe you can tell us some of the little known facts about some of your products.

Oh....I'm SO proud of you! And what a wonderful job!! I LOVE the garden section!! Whenever hubby and I head over...he goes straight to the lumber and I head for the flowers!!LOL It's like I'm in a dazed state! All the pretty colors......I'm like a bug headin' to the bug zapper! I just can't help myself. Walked out spending $200.00 last week...and then tryin' to put all those plants in my tiny car. Hubby and I had the seats all the way up...and if that wasn't a sight. AND...please tell me what 'That Look' is that men give each other? As we are drivin' down the road...and another guy sees us...smashed in the car and gives hubby 'that look'!!LOL
Well good luck darlin'......and have fun!!
