The 10 day outlook for Michigan shows warm weather! I am headed to the garden to get the soil ready...way to early to plant anything but there is still plenty to get done. I have been so jealous of all of you ladies in the south!

I am torn between the coming glorious 70 degree days and the loss of plant life. My crocus will surely have a very short run and I already have plants popping up that SHOULD not be showing their little green heads for another month or so. I work at a greenhouse for about 6 weeks in May/June and last year we had some heavy frost near/around Memorial Day weekend. Having the warmer days (do not get me wrong I LOVE 70 degree days) and then a hard cold snap will not be good in the garden/yard. Someone I know who is in the cherry biz north of Traverse City says he and the farmers are getting worried as the cherry trees are setting buds...... There is really nothing I can do about the weather but I have really mixed emotions if you can not tell :-) Me and my dog will certainly love being outside by weeks end and soaking up the sun and playing in the dirt.

I understand your mixed emotions as far as the weather as Michiganders we know how deprimental this warm of weather early in the season can be to our crops later. Even after the warm weather we have had there are still snow banks in some spots here!

Well, my crocus are spent - lasted a week. Lilacs are in bud, clematis has turned green, tulips are in color and so on. While seeing spring progress makes a little bit of me smile :-) All I really can think of is that we are about a month ahead of schedule and that can only mean heart-ache later on. I work at a greenhouse every year for about 6 weeks and most years we have have AT least one hard frost. Last year it was right before memorial day. Fingers crossed I guess - boy, the temp sure did change today :-)

My apple trees are getting leaves so that means blossoms soon after. And my 3 pear trees are loaded with blossom buds. And it's just April 4th. Now I am worried. I can cover the pear trees easy. And the 4 smaller apple trees. But the 3 big ones are too big to cover. We didn't have many aplles last year due to a heavy frost. But the year before we were covered in apples. I hope we have seen the last of the frosts here. But ya never know around here.

It's been crazy here in Western Colorado. One warm day in the 70's then back to cold and blustry. My Aunt says that they got dumped on by the biggest snow storm they've had in three years! Closed down part of Denver. Not planting nothin' until end of the month... Carla
