Hi Their ladies!! I had a few questions about fiber goats. I am thinking about adding some to my goat farm. Thanks so much!

1. What do you feed fiber goats?

2. How often do you have to brush them?

3. What kind of fencing do they need?

4. What are their mineral needs?

5. What type of questions should I asked when looking at fiber goats?

6. Do they use their horns?

7. How much money do you get for their wool?

Did I miss anything else? Thanks so much again!
Hugs,
Channah

Right now I only have one small angora goat so I can answer some things..but Grace Gerber is your go-to gal for fiber goat info for sure!
As far as feed and fencing...mine eats just what the sheep do (alfalfa/grass hay)and a sheep-tight fence works great. My fence also holds my jersey cow in...it is made of livestock panels with tee posts and wooden corner posts (4x4).I have porta-huts for shelter for the sheep and goat...but Pearl, my angora goat sleeps in the cow house with Mona. I do use a salt block. I use the cobalt blue one. Pearl has horns but they are very curved against her head and she doesn't use them much. She is very spoiled and is a stinker though..she does butt the sheep sometimes.
I don't sell her wool (mohair) but just use it myself...so not sure about that one. Again, Grace is the one who would know that. I shear Pearl myself, by hand, and don't brush her in between, except to get out hay or whatever. That would be different, of course, with cashmere goats.
Really, there isn't a huge difference between the fiber goats and other goats in my opinion, care wise. I love the angora's small size and they are the dang cutest baby goats there are!

I think you will find all those answers in the "Everything Sheep and Goat" forum. If there are any we have missed there then ask again in that forum... Good Luck

Well, we have been talking for sometime now and questions have been asked and answered thru out the forum so I can not say a page number. I know we have hit all the questions you had and then some.
So I guess it is just a matter of finding time to read thru it - everyone contributes on that forum and have wonderful information to share...
