Hi everyone
I'm getting ready to make my first batch of laundry soap, and was going to use the recipe which calls for Fels Naptha bar soap until I did some research on the soap. Did you know that it is made with naptha,a benzene solvent; this is a petroleum product, and is carcinogenic. So, I going to use Ivory soap instead. Are there problems with soap residue and not diluting in the water when using the dry mixture?
Thanks Trish

Trish, I use Zote in my dry laundry detergent and I only use 1/4 or less with a large load of laundry. I have not had any problems with the soap not dissolving and I wash pretty much everything in cold water.

I use Castile bar soap in my dry laundry soap. It has worked great so far. Carla

I use Zote bar like a stain remover. It is 80 cents at Big Lots. It has a lemon smell.
My bed quilt had blood on it and it came out without a stain using the Zote. I saw on someones blog that they use it for making their laundry soap.
I hope this helps.

You don't have to use Fels Naptha. Castile bar soap works well. Most bar soaps work well if you like the fragrance of a particular one, and don't mind the ingredients..You can substitute a few cups of liquid soap you already have to the borax, washing soda, water mixture you are using. I like Arm & Hammer liquid or powder. Or you can learn to make lye soap ( which is easier than it sounds). There is alot of freedom if you are fearless or even scared but willing to experiment.
