It's not a done deal yet, but I might be adopting a female lab mix from the local shelter. I always knew that if I adopted a male dog, I wanted to name him Timber. But, I'm having trouble thinking of a good, outdoorsy, woodsy kind of name for this pup. She is only two years old, so I figure she has plenty of time to get used to a new name (her current name is Susie, but growing up there a really mean girl in my neighborhood named Susie, so I'd rather not keep it). Any ideas?

I like Scout or Ranger. If you're going with one of the seasons, what about Autumn? God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

First thing that came to my mind was Elly May. Saw a Blood hound in a shelter with that name. Reminded me of Elly may on the Beverly Hillbillies. She was outdoorsy woody girl. God Bless Wendy |

How a bout - Willow, Ashley, Aspen, Lavender the Lab, Annie Oakley, Fern, Kate Moss,or Brook. I might suggest a walk in nature and see what she is attracted to - who knows she may give you her name right away.
After naming hundreds and hundreds of animals here at the farm - picking names can be a challenge but it usually comes to me. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the ideas so far!! I'm keeping a list, and I'll try to see which one fits her best. I loved the idea of taking her for a walk in the woods to see what she is drawn to!

I think since you are Woodswoman, Cedar is a great name! I also think that Autumn is a good name for beautiful autumn colors in the New York trees?! Maybe!
